I grew up with corn. Corn pone, corn muffins, corn grits, corn on the cob. All are still my favorite foods. Polenta is just the Italian name for corn meal. The northern Italians sub it for pasta under maranara with lamb & parmesian.

If god said, "you may have one grain: rice, wheat, barley, corn...", I'll take corn.

Wow, that is a nice little stove. I'll add that one to my list. The multiple fuel capacity is sweet. I've seen that in some vintage military surplus stoves but not in very many modern ones.

Corn is really underrated these days, at least outside the south. It used to be the classic American food until mass-produced wheat-based bread replaced homemade corn based foods.

You got that right, friend. That whole schtick about "wonder bread" building bodies in 12 different ways got a lot of us.

But there was always something about mom's cornbread that just tasted better than wonder bread, even when WB had baloney with mustard between the slices.

A friend recently brought me a newspaper article about Memphis (my home town) food. Stories about BBQ (a Meomphis specialty), fried chicken, mashed potatoes, fried okra, fresh garden tomatoes, turnip greens (with turnips) ... and corn bread.

Where else in this nation do they serve cornbread everyday with dinner?

Medications and spare glasses might be a good idea.
Those of you that are addicted might want to being enough for a maintenace dose. You might be able to avoid a cold turkey withdrawal during a crisis. This includes tobacco or (patches), alcohol and prescription drugs. Street drugs would make a good trading tool. If you are in New Orleans you could trade drugs for police protection! Condoms might be useful for trade or safety.
