My EFK Fire Dragon barrel broke after 92 rounds!

I ordered it in September and received it in December, but I didn't use it until my suppressor permit cleared this month. I fired a total of 92 rounds of new, factory 230 grain FMJ from my Springfield XD .45 over two sessions with my AAC Ti-Rant. The lug broke off the bottom of the barrel on shot #92. The empty did not extract (although it was easily extracted with a fingernail) and the slide and barrel ended up about 1" forward from the battery position. I know I didn't do anything abnormal, and I hope EFK backs their Lifetime Warranty more quickly than my order took to fill originally.

Very strange.

Bummer. I have one in an old L/W Commander with many rounds through it and still shoots great. I am sure they will replace it.

I have had two of the EFKFiredragon barrels for my .45 acp xd service. Both of these barrels had the lug break off. I do use hot loads and accepted part of the responsibility, but don't think it should have happened. My factory barrel is going strong and has had the same ammo through it.

The barrel has a lifetime warranty, but what happens when the barrel breaks in a way that damages the gun? Or the shooter???

- I got a hold of them on the phone today, they want me to send it back so they can "inspect it". Not quite the "We'll have a replacement in the mail tomorrow with a pre-paid return shipping label for you to send the broken one back" I was hoping for. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

simply taking 2 seconds to google EFK products would've let you know to stay away from them.

research before you buy and you can avoid headaches like this.


their cust serv is known for being as lousy as their products. they seem to always replace their bad products with something that's no better, or even worse.

Stories like this is why I generally stay away from aftermarket barrels. Sometimes you just can't beat stock.

I hope they treat you right. If not let everyone know and exact your revenge through a negative PR campaign.

If you want a high quality aftermarket barrel, go to BarSto barrels for a barrel that improves the accuracy of the pistol and can be depended upon.

this is not the first EFK barrel in an XD that has snapped the lug off.. it seems to be a running theme with EFK..

Anyone have a problem with a Glock EFK barrel? I believe they are one piece. Are the XD barrels one piece, or welded?
