Picked up a SA Champion Operator used a few weeks ago. I opted to go the used route since these are hard to come by (nonexistent locally) Put her through the paces at the range a couple days ago. Very tight groups at 15 yards. As accurate if not more accurate than my Elite Match in 10mm.

Trigger pull is to die for....and extremely light. She gets a bit snappy though when you fire hot loads through her. I was originally going to buy a compact Sig, but changed my mind after talking to people with reliability issues. Out of 150 rounds shot, to include +P 185 XTPs and 230 grain hardball, only 1 FTF...which I attribute to a lack of lubrication.

This is now my primary carry.

Congratulations.

Excellent 1st 1911.

There will be more; there are always more.

Torlan, Looks like a beauty. I hope you don't mind me asking what you paid for it and did you find it on line or at your LGS.

Thanks, Thek9
I spent around 1000.00 online. Yea I paid a premium, but if you look around on gunbroker these are pretty rare. The gun was well cared for by its previous owner.

Champion Operators seem to command a premium these days. Springfield just isn't churning them out, and most people who own them don't want to part with them.

I was looking at some of the 4 in barrel 1911s that Sig makes..my LGS just got in a Sig Nightmare...but I was worried about getting a lemon...so I opted with a sure deal with the Springfield.

Never understood the 1911 appeal until she started BARKING at the range with those hot lots...smacking that little plate target at 25 yards without a sweat. I'm hooked!

Nice gun. Sort of reminds me of when I shoot my Colt Officers Model; some bark to go with the bite.

Looks like a good choice for carry. Smaller and lighter than a full-size 1911, but just as good a stopper.

It is definitely light, but still pretty solid. Thanks.

Thanks gents. I put about 300 rounds of mixed leadcast, Hornady XTPs, and TMJs through her over the last couple weeks.

At my most recent range outing, my buddy brought out his full size Wilson Combat, which was going through multiple FTFs on a variety of ammo. Meanwhile, my Springfield was gobbling up all his ammo without any issues.

After shooting the Wilson, I could say that the action was a bit tighter...but I actually felt the Springfield had a better trigger pull. The aluminum frame of the Operator does equate to more pronounced recoil however...considering the installation of some aluminum grips to help tame this beast.

Someone here on THR had a sig line at one time regarding the 1911: An elegant weapon for a more civilized age." I think Alec Guinness ripped it off in some movie...
