The rifle if taken care of will last you a lifetime. Good gun for the money, enjoy it.

Excellent choice for your first rifle, don't let my wife know, but you can actually hunt any game in North America with the '06. And the Savage is usually an accurate rifle, just try a couple of different bullet wieghts until you find one that gives you the accuracy you want.

Congratulations, most people go overboard and buy a magnum. Does it have the accu-trigger?

There are two things that you should do: New scope, and new stock

And shoot alot of different ammo through it, savages have a love hate relationship with ammo they either love it or hate it.

Good luck and be sure to tell us how it shoots

Great rifle. Never get rid of it. My first rifle was a 110 in 30-06 with the same scope and I let it go because I knew nothing about shooting a rifle and the recoil scared me. Now I am building a custom thumper in 338-06 on a 110 action. You can build (almost) any caliber on that gun at home without a gunsmith if you know what you are doing. All you ever want to know about them can be found at www.savageshooters.com

Savage rifles are excellent. I believe they are the most accurate rifles out the box.
I have a 110 Tactical in .308 and she is a tack driver.

that is a wise choice you made, you could hardly do better for 1000 bucks. the scope is a hunting scope, and it will have a bit of parrallax, so if you want to find out how accurate it shoots, you may wanna upgrade the scope, then buy several types of ammo, including military surplus, a.k.a. 'milsurp', and find out which ammo it likes the best. You can find out a bit with that scope, by testing it out at 50 yards, you may , MAY, be able to see a difference in group sizes, but it is better to judge the 30.06 at 100.
Again, a good choice all the way around.

My oldest Savage 110 is an old Chicopee Falls '06 that dates back to about 1958. An examination shows that has never been reblued and the bore is pristine. Some one went to the expense of having customed stocked in outrageous striped maple. I bought it about five years ago, mounted a scope and tuned the trigger. I was rewarded with a true minute and half rifle. I'd shoot it more but it looks too nice to ride around in the truck.....Essex

One of the neat things about Savages is that the barrel is screwed into the receiver and held there with a barrel nut. The bolt head can also be changed. What that basically means for you is that with the right tools, it isn't too hard to change the caliber at home if you decided you ever wanted to or if you somehow wore out the barrel.

If it's got the Accu-Trigger, you can also take the action out of the stock and turn a single screw to adjust the trigger pull weight.

Great guns those Savages.

I have the same exact rifle, same caliber. I absolutely love the adjustable AccuTrigger. Great gun, but the packaged scope, while servicable, isnt the best.
