I recently traded into my first colt 1911. I traded my HK USP 45 full size and a little cash for a tricked out FEG Hi Power and a uncommon Colt 1911.
The Colt is a 1991A1 officers slide mounted on a full size frame. I wasn't sure how much I would like this combo, but I love it! It feeds everything well, from hollow points to wad cutters and is very accurate. The original owner had a Wilson Combat beaver tail grip safety added as well as a sweet trigger job. I couldn't be more pleased.
I have owned 6 or so 1911's from Armscor to Springfield, but this is my first real Colt.
Pics to come later, just had to share my joy!

wouldn't that be a Commander frame?

It should carry quite easilly, as will the HP clone.

watching for the pics....

I've shot my BIL's duty USP 45 (with the funky LEO trigger) on several occasions, and I don't get the appeal.

Here you go!

It came with Uncle Mikes hard rubber checkered grip panels, which are stock for this pistol, but I liked these a little more.
On a side note, this is how awesome my gunsmith is. After I got this home and shot about 100 rounds I noticed the plunger tube was a little loose. I called him yesterday, and he said bring it in. He restaked it for free because I bought it from him. He also did it in about 10 min, what a true gentleman! He stands behind even his used guns in his shop.

At a glance I would say that is a Commander model. I don't think you can fit an Officer's model slide on anything else since the dust cover would have to be so short. I know they will put a Commander slide on an Officer's model frame and for whatever reason call it a CCO. I have a Commander XSE with the alloy frame and it looks just like yours. Assuming my brain is working this morning, the Officer's model barrel is 3", the Commander model is 4.25", and the Government model is 5". There are several like the SA Champion line that have a 4" tube but that is not concidered to be a Commander. Also, I think Colt has a patent or copyright on the term "Commander" so they are the only one that can call it that. The last issue or two of the NRA's American Rifleman has a brilliant write up on what it takes for most 1911's to feed and shoot just right. It's very worth reading. And yes, that is one good gun smith.

The barrel is 3.5", and is an officers slide. I beleive they called this the Commanding Officer. I have a 5", a 4",and now a 3.5" on a commander frame. Colt made a limited amount of these, you can Google to read more if you wish.
