My first custom made holster for my Ed Brown KOBRA CARRY 1911

I just made my own custom holster for my Ed Brown KOBRA CARRY and I LOVE IT! It is super comfortable and fits snugly. Check it out:






It has a slight can't in the opposite direction of a Milt Sparks VMII so that it fits appendix carry well.

Some friendly advice (feel free to tell me to shove it; you won't hurt my feelings )

Looks like that belt loop is all kinds of in the way of your draw. Maybe it's just the pic, but it looks like there's leather and pants in between you and the portion of the grip just under the trigger guard, which is a critical area that you would want to cleanly index, as it is the point from where you will anchor the rest of your grip on the draw and present the pistol. Looks like all you can cleanly grab is the butt, which is going to give you the least amount of control on the draw. Think "driving the pistol with your stronger fingers at a point closer to the center of gravity of the pistol" vs. "driving the pistol with your pinky and ring fingers at a point far away from the center of gravity".

All of that being said, if you like it and can draw okay from it, then good on you.

Thank you for the advice Jason! I actually made two different holsters before this one that turned out well but not exactly how I wanted. I made sure that I can draw from this fast while being safe. It works great =)

Jason made great points.

A properly designed holster allows for a FULL firing grip before the gun moves out of the holster one millimeter.

The holster pictured does not allow that. The leather comes up unnecessarily high on both sides.

If you have to pinch the grip between thumb and forefinger to get the gun started out of the holster before a full firing grip is achieved, then a fast, reliable draw simply is not possible.

If you're inclined, I'd suggest making another one that allows a full firing grip, carries the gun at least a finger's width above the top edge of the belt (or holster) and let the rear piece that is folded down to go UP instead, keeping the top part of the gun from touching the body (but still allows the full firing grip)

If you do make a properly designed rig, I'm sure you'll find the draw to be immensely better than from the one shown.

Congratulations on your holster....As long as you are happy with it, that is all that matters!!!

I'm sure I couldn't have done any better and I like to see others out there making their own things......it's a matter of personal pride and I applaud you for it!!!

That is so cool looking, I agree with some of the critiques here but ultimately its yours so if it works for you then that's all that matters. By the way I am now rather jealous of your Kobra Carry as well, nice looking gun.

Ok. So I took the first holster that I made (I made three and the one in the first few pics is the third of the three) and cut part of it off so it fit your advice. I think it will work better. What do you think?

Great lookin holster really like the looks of the second one better though. looks really comfortable.

On your holster, take a punch and round out the end of your cut marks. It will prevent tearing. Or you can buy a slot cutter; that will make really nice slots for the belt to come through. The same can be accomplished with a head knife or razor blade and two punched holes, but a slot cutter makes it easier.

Here, I circled the spots on yours that you can round off. And here's one I built a few years ago. Circled areas are like on yours where the slot ends. That's where I punched a hole to keep it from tearing. Hope it helps!
