I just bought my first Glock yesterday. I had a chance to sample a G27 a while back, and ever since then I knew I would own one of the sub-compact models. So yesterday, I went to ye local gun shoppe, and a NIB Glock 33 ended up following me home. Pics coming soon.

I bought a couple boxes of Winchester JHP's to cycle through it, and this thing runs flawlessly, as expected... It's also the proverbial "tiger by the tail," in terms of recoil. .357SIG out of this thing is harder on my hands than .357Mag in a J-frame airweight. I'm pretty sure it's due to the tiny grip and where it sits in the heel of my hand. I can simply get a better grip on a J-frame. Tonight is the first time that my hand and wrist has ever been sore from shooting. Now I have big hands - but with the magazine extensions it works for what it's supposed to do.

Overall, I'm impressed. It turns out I like a consistent trigger pull better than DA/SA, although I don't think I'll ever be crazy about Glock triggers. The winning facor for me is how easy it is to carry compared to a full sized gun. Compared to a P220 it's like carrying an I-pod. At the moment, all I have is an el-cheapo OWB holster that came with it, which works surpisingly well... but I'd like to get a nicer setup going soon. Which leads me to my question:

-

How do you guys carry your Glocks? Leather? Kydex? Other? Brands?

Pics would be great if you have them. It took me an hour to get called to the counter (the store was a madhouse), and another hour to find my gun... by time I finished the paperwork and walked out, the last thing on my mind was spending another hour there to find a good setup.

Also, I've sampled a lot of Glocks before buying this one, but I don't know much about them mechanically. I've heard I can convert this to a .40S&W with just a barrel swap. Is this true? Anything else I should know about my new Glock? Thanks in advance!

glad to have another convert i have been carrying either a23,30 or most recently a27 i recently bought. you are absolutely right about ease of carry, i think the 27 will become my summer carry gun . i usualy carry in acomp-tac ctac slide but also have the tucker answer, carry is really a personal thing but i much prefer the comp-tac. hope you enjoy and that this helps ,welcome to the DARK SIDE.

IMO Glock is the most simple, reliable, durable, and best handgun made period. I have only had mine around a week and a half and have over 15 other handguns but the Glock is my favorite by far. I did countless hours of research and talked to several people before deciding whis polymer gun to get and the Glock was by far the gun I wanted.

Tiger by the tail huh. I would love to see your second shot split times and placement.
Sorry, I just don't buy into the Glock Perfection crap. A well made gun for sure. Better than all the rest? I seriously doubt it.
I'll gladly keep my Kahrs and Berettas thank you.

My condolences...

:D

I was wondering how long that would take.

:neener:

My second shot split times and placement, according to my targets yesterday, were good enough to hit a 1/4 sized silhouette target everytime COM (somewhat spread out like a shotgun pattern, but COM nevertheless) at 10 yards, in about 3 seconds - in other words, it's perfect for what I bought it for... self-defense and concealed carry. And I'll only get better with it. ;)

Further more, I don't buy into the "brand loyalty" crap... I buy and own guns I like, not what someone else tells me is the best. I own Beretta's, Taurus', Colts, SIGs, Rugers, etc. All of them are reliable and shoot straighter than I can. I don't mind if someone wants to tease me about buying a Glock, but let's not get snooty about it. I'm asking for information about carry setups, barrel swaps, etc... I'm not asking your opinion about my gun, and as far as I know you've never seen me shoot. And who said anything about Glock perfection? I know I didn't. Let's not turn this into "I love/hate Glocks,"

If you own a Glock, and/or carry one, I'd like to know how you tote it, and what else I can do with this thing. Thanks, btw - tdperry30. I'll look into those comp-tac holsters.

I [heart] all guns.:D

CM, I carried a Glock 23 as a LEO in a Ted Blocker "Lifeline" shoulder rig. I also had a Nelson #1 Professional for OWB and a Milt Sparks Summer Special IWB.

Remember my advice for choosing the "right" holster: get a cardboard box!:neener: :D (FYI, for the newbies, it will take a while to obtain the right holster for you. You will have extra holsters. Throw them in a cardboard box).

Lots of good holster makers now, Cousin Mike. But I would call Tony at Milt Sparks and see what he recommends from what guys are telling him.

Thanks a million, El T! I'll be sure to give him a call. I'll also check out the Nelson #1, and MS Summer rig... :)

As for my cardboard box, it's filling up fast! I guess I just need a bigger box. Since I found this little thing, maybe I can start selling some of them off to make room for new choices.

This Glock is only the last of this year's purchases. The first of next years purchases probably won't be very far off... I have my eye on a S&W .44 Magnum I found recently for a little over $500.

+1 on the Comp-Tac

I have them for all of my Glocks. Affordable. Good fit. Does not take years to get one. I prefer the Pro Undercover. I wish they made holsters for all of my pistols.

That's okay, Mike. I don't like them so I don't buy them. You bought it, I didn't. If you like yours, I'm happy for you.

Congrats!! Give that man a Ceeegar!

I usually carry my Glock 23 either IWB, in an Uncle Mikes(any relation to you Cousin Mike:D ) size 15 holster. That medium-sized firearm just disappears under most loose shirts. If I can get away with it(like at night or weather permits), I carry in a Fobus paddle holster. Rule for carrying OWB with a paddle holster, DARK COLORS ARE YOUR FRIEND:D . Having said that, my Glock hasn't been getting much carry duty as I have been breaking in and getting used to my new Colt Commander 1911. I guess I may have to start carrying both so the Glock 23 doesn't feel less loved and get envious:uhoh:(lol) !!

Still 2 Many Choices!?

Sorry to hear the bad news, you could always trade it in for a Sig when you come to your senses. :neener:

Congrats on the new gun anyway.

And to answer your question, the only way to carry a Glock is in a Comp-Tac.

what's with the glock bashers trashing cousin mike's thread? un effin believable.
any glock is a good glock; it'll work far mor superior in reliability and durability than these schmuck's 1911s.

I don't get caught up in brand loyaty either. I like certain qualities about all my handguns, and some more than others.

Congrats on the Glock 33. I put off buying my first Glock awhile and now am thinking about my next one (or two). :D

"any glock is a good glock; it'll work far mor superior in reliability and durability than these schmuck's 1911s."

As long as it doesn't blow up.

Like El Tejon, I (heart) all guns, steel or plastic or what-have-you (well, I dunno about the potmetal poodle-poppers...). But...

I don't understand the animosity or the name-calling here that was prompted by what seemed to me to be good-natured tongue-in-cheek ribbing. I own four 1911s, with the most recent one added last week. Guess I'm a bona-fide schmuck.
I don't doubt the Glock is a great gun. Just not my cup of tea...or flavor of Kool-Aid, if you will. I've considered getting a Glock 20, but before I do I'll need to shoot the Glock more to get used to it. But, in any event, congrats, Cousin Mike. Getting a new gun is awesome. :D

Thanks, pistolero!

FWIW, I don't understand all the animocity either. I thought Phil DeGraves' "My condolences..." was funny, and good natured. Same with "As long as it doesn't blow up." :D

However, peashooter seemed a little resentful about something... What, I have no idea.

Being a SIG guy, I expected a little ribbing about buying a Glock, and that's fine. I like a good joke. While we're being honest here, I wasn't a big Glock fan - but carrying my P220 / Sig Pro was starting to kick my butt. I figured (as a friend of mine elegantly stated) Glocks are made for 2 things - to go "bang" everytime you want it to, and to carry. That's exactly what I needed, and I always did like shooting them. Problem is, I'm a complete Glock-n00b. :D

Everything about this gun is different than what I'm used to. Even sight picture throws me a little... Am I supposed to hold a coarse bead (the front sight centered slightly above the rear sight notch), or use the standard sight picture? :uhoh:

Might sound like a dumb question, but I can only see about 1/2 - 3/4 of the front sight "dot" when I hold a standard sight picture. I figure I'm supposed to be seeing the "dot".

Anyways, I appreciate all the advice and congrats! You guys will be the first to know when I find a good setup for carrying this thing. I'm liking these Comp-Tac holsters!

That's the main problem I have with Glocks, they do not point naturally for me and require me to push the muzzle down to get a correct sight picture. I do not have to do this with Sig's or 1911's (my preferred handguns).

They both point pretty naturally for me... I guess I just have really limber wrists or something, because I know that's pretty strange. The Glock just points a pinch high - basically at a coarse bead - which is why I asked about sight picture. Once I figure that out, I'll be good as gold. :)

I can say one thing about Glocks...they do work. In all my travels I've seen very few fail or leave the shooter hanging.

Have fun with the new gun.

Hey, remember that you can drop in a G27 barrel in it and you can shoot .40. Also I am sure you know that the subcombat glocks can accept the fullsize magazines. First couple of things I did was replace the Mag Release and Slide Release for the Extended versions.

Also it takes a little while to learn to firm up your grip with your ring and middle finger, its strange not having much for your pinkie to wrap around.

When I'm at work I carry on my ankle. As my pockets ae usually full and due to what I'm required to wear OWB is impossible and IWB prints entirely too much. I use a "generic" nylon/spandex/velcro deal. I find this better then that all leather ones. As this holster holds it securely and doesn't dig into my ankle. I got the ankle holster w/strap from the owner of http://www.wrbusa.com/ I met him at a local gunshow. I find the strap prevents the gun from sliding down my ankle.

When I'm not working that I usually carry it in a pocket holster from http://www.kramerleather.com/products.cfm?categoryID=28. Iyt breaks the outline up so it prints more like an Ipod, wallet or really full pocket more than anything else.
