Sheriff: "Yeah, I know that, but I still ain't gonna sign. I might be liable."

Bring in a note from your doctor and lawyer that the sheriff is now liable for any hearing damage you receive from firearms. He's denying you safety equipment that could protect your hearing. Bonus points if you can get a memo from OSHA.

:D

Rock Jock and others, tell me more about the LLC thing you mentioned.

Do you mean limited liablity corporation? Thats the only LLC I know of. If so, how does being an LLC change things with respect to Class III weapons?

If I am not mistaken the Sheriff of Harris County was nearly sued over this. As I remember it only took a letter from an attorney informing him that he was going to be sued for slander. By not signing the form he was implying that you WERE a prohibited person, therefore a felon, and that is one of the three automatic wins for a slander. If it doesn't work you can go the incorporation route, but that seems to be an unnecessary hassle and probably more expensive than having an attorney write a letter.

Well, if you want to spend the money, you could probably get a Writ of Mandamus to force him to do his job . . .

but you indicated, there's a work around, so perhaps, in the name of expediency, you should do that and make sure as many people as possible know what an inept bureaucrat and petit weenie Sheriff Bubba is -
