My permanent address is listed in Wake County, where the sheriff reportedly will NOT sign off on Form 4s.

I am currently attending college in Orange County (and don't know about the CLEO here).

Since I cannot get the Wake sheriff to sign, would I be able to apply in Orange (or potentially another county) for the simple signoff?

if you are renting for the duration (longer than six months OFF CAMPUS), use your current address.

remember there are alternatives to CLEO, including incorporating.

p.s. I just got another Form 4 signed today by my jefe for a can. What a coincidence.

chief might ask you how long you've been a resident ...

i'd approach your CLEO in your own town first just to give it a shot. it's his job to at least entertain your request.

some things that might help: before asking your chief for his sigs (2x) on the Form 4's, first obtain a "letter of good conduct" in your town, which is basically a routine background check packaged in a fancy looking certificate like a college diploma. :neener: Most towns provide this service free of charge.

When you drop off your paperwork, include a photocopy of this letter of conduct - every little bit helps.

good luck.

You can also get the judge to sign off on it. I don't remember exactly which, but have read about it before. Not a problem here, CLEO signs whatever for whoever. Knowing most of the deputies doesn't hurt either. Most want to come play when the toys come in.

I've heard the same thing about Donnie Harrison here in Wake County. Of course, everyone heard it from a friend of a friend's former roommate, so I've always taken it with a grain of salt.

I'd *try* to see if Harrison signs or not before resorting to Plan B.

I happen to own a North Carolina corporation (LLC), so I always figured I had a backup plan should I decide to play NFA.

I'd love to hear your experiences, either here or by PM.

Stevemis,

The owner of PDHSC in Garner (Wake County) who does FFL/NFA transfers told me this face-to-face.

Dangit. Ok, I'll buy that. The Tilleys have no reason to make that information up. They are a good group of people.
