I packed the gun and ear defenders and headed out to the range this weekend with a 100 round box of Federal 230 grain FMJ and several boxes of various self defense ammo. It was a hot and humid day in central Arkansas with scattered thunderstorms moving through the area. Fortunately the range I visited has a nice covered shooting area.
The gun shoots well and recoil, although easily controllable, let's you know you are shooting a 45. I guess I've been spoiled by my GLOCK 19 and have grown used to the light recoil of the 9mm.
I had one hiccup and one issue with the gun during the 85 rounds I sent down range.
I'm a left-handed shooter with large hands. During shooting the ejected spent cases can hit the tip of my left thumb if I'm not mindful of how I place it on the thumb safety. I've never had this with the Colt Government Model I've owned for 31 years. This is due partly to the Sig's lowered ejection port and the angle the cases exit the gun. I mention all of this because I did have a failure to eject at round 28 which I partially attribute to the case bouncing off of my thumb. All other case ejections were positive and with authority to the 4 o'clock position.
The gun had no other issues with any of the rounds fired and accuracy was good. I was impressed how well the trigger and grips allowed me to get on target and press my shots. However, at about round number 75 I noted the point of impact began wandering. At round 85 I found the cause of my the problem... The rear sight had loosened. After cleaning, I reinstalled the sight, tightened the set screw, and hopefully the spot of blue Loctite I applied will keep it in place.
I have to say I do like this gun. I've always wanted a commander sized 1911 because my full sized 1911 is just a bit big & heavy for me to carry. This gun makes it possible. Recommended!
