Deciding on the next gun: 45acp

Cap'n Mack already cited the 'liveliness' (ahem!) of an alloy framed Commander in .45 ACP. It just gets mighty bouncy for a long day at the range. If an alloy 1911 is really what the OP wants, consider one in 9mm.
SIG makes a dandy 1911, but it's hard to argue with one with a prancing pony. Series 80 ignition isn't the issue it once was, in any case.

I’m not interested in an alloy frame. Steel is what I’d get. 👍

That Sig is a great gun. I shot one that belongs to a friend. I instantly knew that I wanted one.
If you feel that you will edc that weight and size, then support your lgs and get the sig.
I doubt you'll be disappointed.

You gotta at least get the best one, then the others of your choice. PXL_20231006_054536375.jpg
I say best one because it has the most mods and customization(or personalization) It is the lightest with the highest capacity combination. It is built to last (N-dlc, cold hammer forged, Glock polymer 2 tech) as stronger or stronger than HK. Yes, it can handle 45super. It is utterly reliable. Concealable.
It can be put into the Recover Tactical 20/21 brace, if you're into that either for fun or for some advantage like letting your 10 year old use it and having good control even with the most powerful ammo. I believe there's another brace that can take it but i forgot which.
The only down side is that there is no optic mount option except to get the slide milled or use the Dove Mounting Solution. Not a big deal for me since I prefer irons on a carry gun and I have an optic on my 20/21 brace.
You can however have extra slides that are milled while keeping the original untouched. You can use G30, G36, G29, as well as another G30S slide. (36 and 30S are almost identical except that the 30S metallurgy is built to a much higher standard, and almost 1oz heavier)
Just from the factory, though, if you never shot one, it is on a whole nother level. The slide action is fast, faster than a 30, almost like a 9mm. Light for caliber ammo turn it into a very fast and low recoiling shooter.
I suggest it because its very different from a typical 45acp and most people dont know. They think its like a 30, but no. If you dont like recoil, this gun is not for you. It definitely has more recoil than a 21 or 30. I dont mind the recoil since I learned to control it, not mitigate it. I get alot of muzzle rise but returns on target faster than most can keep the muzzle on target. 2 different methods. Most people never get good with their guns though, so maybe it does not matter to you.

This will be primarily used for occasional carry, home defense, and some camping trips. I have other guns in multiple calibers, so no need to go into what caliber is better for the above 🙂

I wonder if I’ll get the value of 2-3x the price of the Sig and Colt vs going with the M&P.
They sure look good though!!

My list of priorities:
1) Reliability
2) Ease of maintenance
3) Looks

It don't get much simpler, in my opinion, than the 1911 design. I do admit to being a little biased, though.

Honestly, most of the pistols I've seen, and all I own, are simple/easy with respect to maintenance. There are a few exceptions out there, but none you've listed here.

The 1911 trigger is not a pivoting trigger which, in my opinion again, makes it easier to shoot accurately. I'll not go into that in this posting, however.

Reliability? You've listed proven models, I don't know what I can add to that.

Looks? Highly subjective and the only opinion in this that matters is yours.

The good news is that you aren't limited to just one pistol. Make a choice now, have fun, and down the road feel free to buy another!
