Hi all, my friend wants to apply for a carry permit in Pennsylvania. What does she need to do? I figured I could point her to this thread for some starting advice.

thanks!

Application is made at the office of the Sheriff's Dept for the county in which she resides.

She could Google for the location and phone number, call ahead and see what they say.

Also try here...

Pennsylvania is a "shall issue" state. At last count, there were over 650,000 holders of License To Carry Firearms in PA. That was a year or two ago!

It is very easy to get a carry permit in PA if you pass the NICs check. Check out Centre County which is where I would purchase mine if I wanted or needed on. My TN permit is accepted in PA, so there is no reason for me to purchase there.

I went to my local sheriff's office and filled out the application. Then waited a couple of weeks and got a post card in the mail saying it was approved. Went back to Sheriff's office and they took my picture and put it on my permit and out the door I went. It's easier than getting a drivers license. I think they have to let you know within 48 days if your approved or not. I think it was around 30.00 dollars but I might be wrong on that.

It's remarkably easy to get a permit in PA. 83fj60cruiser's experience is accurate. I encouraged both of my parents to get their CCW permits. They were doubtful because last time my mom had applied for she hadn't been given a permit for reasons unknown or forgotten. They were both surprised at how easy it was to obtain their permits. Now they carry every day. Just remember that permits expire every 5 years and I don't think they notify you to let you know that your permit is about to run out. I do believe it is cheaper to renew your permit than to let it run out and apply for a new one, if not easier to process.

Tell your friend good luck. PAFOA and PAopencarry are some great sites for her to check out.
