I haven't posted on THR in awhile, and I was just thinking about this today so I figured I'd post it on here.

Back before the big ammo rush when .22lr was still available for purchase in stores, I had bought one of the federal bulkpack 22lr which was 525 rounds. I was bored one day and started thinking about how federal actually knew that there was 525 rounds in the box, so I opened it up and counted them one by one, and sure enough there was less than 525, cannot remember exactly how much it was off, but it was over 50, so I was kinda of amused by this and sent an email to them to let em know that some of the counts may be off by a bit, and that while it was not a huge deal to me, they may be interested in investigating and fixing the problem.

So I get a call a few days later with a sincere apology and an offer to replace the value of the missing rounds, I told them it was not necessary and the apology and investigation of the issue were payment enough, he insisted so I eventually accepted. Before we got off the phone, he asked "Just out of sheer curiosity, what kind of scale do you have?" I replied "Scale?" he says "Well yeah, I mean you obviously didn't just sit and count them one by one"

*Long silence*

Ok well we will be getting that check out to you shortly, have a great day and sorry for any trouble again.

Got a $5.00 check in the mail later.

:D

I like the Federal Automatch 22 ammo so I was really surprised when the bulk box I just opened was really varying a lot. some of the rounds would barely cycle the Ruger 22/45 that I was using and some of the bullets seemed like they were barely clearing the muzzle. it was pretty much the same with a K-22. I e-mailed the lot number to Federal to see if that had any other complaints with the lot number. I got a reply from Federal saying they hadn't heard of any problems. they asked how many of that lot number did I have and I told along with the box I just opened I had one box that was unopened. they sent me 4 boxes of the Automatch and just to destroy the other ammo.

I didn't think it would be wise to keep 22 ammo that could barely get out of a 4 inch barrel and wouldn't have made it out of a 20 inch barrel

I've never been shorted in a bulk pack,,,

I've never been shorted in a Federal bulk pack,,,
I know because I count every round.

When I can I purchase the 550 round packs from Wal Mart,,,
The first thing I do is fill the empty 100 round packs from CCI Mini-Mags.

I find these at the range all the time,,,
It's an excellent way to take ammo to the range.

Okay, I am a bit obsessive compulsive,,,
But in over seven years of doing this repackaging,,,
I have noticed that I always get exactly 550 rounds per carton.

I even stated a thread on how amazed I was at the accuracy of their count.

I don't count every round but I'm always loading magazines in multiples of 25 or 10 rounds in batches of enough mags to be 100 rounds so I'd notice being by more than five. Seems I have a Barny round as often as I come up short, so it seems to average out for me.

its all about case weight on the shipping line. youd be surprised how well and efficient some companies are. ive seen granola bar packing lines, that if you took one bar out of a package before it went into a case, that entire case would get kicked out of the line.

Not necessarily related to .22 ammo, but reloading bullets. I count my boxes of bullets that I buy for reloading. Usually there are about 5 or 6 extra. Not that I feel like I'm gonna get shorted any, but I have a detailed spreadsheet with the count of every component I have for reloading.

I don't know about being shorted on bulk packs, but I had about 5 rounds from a box of Blazer Brass .40 would not fit in the chamber.

When I got home, I dropped the rounds my Lyman Gage...sure enough, no go. The bullet was tight in the case, but it looked like the expanded neck had not even been touched, much less crimped. I looked through the roughly 50 boxes ( ) and found four more with the same lot. I gaged all those rounds, and about a quarter were either tight in the gage or would not fit.

I called them the next day and was transfered to someone in QC that was extreamly polite. He told me that the lot was one of several that had been recalled about 2 years earlier. He said they would ship me some replacement ammo and he emailed me a list of lot numbers to check agaist what I had. To my surprise, UPS DROPPED OFF A FULL CASE ABOUT THREE DAYS LATER!

That is what I call customer service.
