I'm sure this won't be too interesting to most of you but my first experience with buying a gun online isn't going too well.

I put out some WTB threads at various forums for a Ruger GP100 and got a response on one of them. Exchanged emails (about 10 or so in all) with a seller who was very nice to deal with. He had his FFl mail the gun over last week using 4 day service. I call his FFL with the number he gave me just to confirm that it was sent. I call my FFL yesterday and they say they don't have anything for me.

I email the seller and he calls his FFL and gives me a tracking number that his FFL gave him when he inquired why it hadn't arrived yet. I go to the post office today with the tracking number and they say the package was delivered Jan 2nd!

I'm pissed so I go to the FFL's shop and they're out for today due to a local gunshow. So either some mailman decided he wanted a shiny new gun or the FFL lost it or maybe is even selling it at the gunshow today who knows!

All i know is that I don't have it and I have to wait till Monday for some more answers :cuss:

That's a bummer, but I bet they have it and it hasn't been checked in to their inventory yet. Hopefully a visit to the shop on Monday will get it cleared up.

I had a similar situation on my first online purchase as well. I felt kind of dumb after getting impatient with the seller only to find the gun had been at my local FFL for several days.

Odd though, I didn't think even FFL's could ship handguns via USPS.

Sorry it's not going well. The gun show I know of this weekend is at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Hillsboro if you want to go make sure, although he'd have a lot of explaining to do to both you and the seller so I doubt that's the case.
Maybe he's behind on paperwork and hasn't entered it into his inventory yet. If he got it on the 2nd perhaps you could get him to knock 50% off the transfer fee or something.

Yeah doubletap I thought about going to the gunshow in Hilsboro to talk to them (I checked online and that's the only oregon one i saw as well) but I'm going to the boatshow and blazers game today.

I'm hoping they're just behind on their paperwork.....I'd hate to have to file a stolen gun report but I guess i'll see what happens Monday.

And i was so looking forward to shooting it this weekend :(

i'm just kinda shocked that there's actually a gun store that is open on Mondays. It seems like every one in Ohio is closed on Mondays, except the obvious big-box retailers.

Me too.. Now we wait for monday for him to return to this thread with more bad news about it being closed. =)

Only an FFL can ship handguns via USPS.

I shipped a gun to an FFL in Kentucky a couple of years ago and the FFL dealer did not bother to tell the person buying the gun that it had arrived.

I got a rather heated email demanding to know where his gun was.

The FFL I deal with locally may sign for a shipment (or one of his employees may sign), but he doesn't call me until he's had opportunity to add the gun to his book. If he's working a gun show, that might add a day or two between the time the gun physically arrives and the time he's ready for me to come pick it up.

I appreciate that this is your first internet gun buy. But I wouldn't sweat it for a couple of days. Likely that everything is in order, just slightly delayed. Hope everything works out for you, though.

All is well.....after sending an email to them got a response that it did in fact come in on Friday. Will hopefully pick it up monday and if not then on tuesday.

Chalk it up to first-timer nerves.

Now does anyone have any suggestions on what kinda ammo GP100's like best for target loads?

I thought handguns had to be shipped overnight if using USPS. I've heard of Priority Mail, Express Mail, and Parcel Post... but never heard of USPS "4 day service".

He had his FFl mail the gun over last week using 4 day service.

My FFL guy is unorganized and he will "forget" one came in. I always got it, but sometimes I have to ask him to "check" because it says it was delivered. He comes back and says "yea, it's back there" Then I go get it. He's been good to deal with and if I get two at the same time, which has happened a couple of times, he charges me the same $20 as if it was one. Yea, I'm broke. Bought too many this year. :uhoh:

I sold my first gun on Gunbroker just before christmas. It went out by USPS. It took about 5 days to get to Washington from Texas. And yes it was a handgun. An H&R 999.

The tracking number only shows up when the gun gets to the final post office apparently.

The seller wore a groove in my hard drive with e-mails asking where his gun was. He wanted it real bad and i wanted him to have it. I have learned to be patient. Its not easy because i'm not built that way.

I put a shotgun on layaway at K-Mart once. I went back 4 hours later and paid the balance. The lady said that was hands down the shortest layaway she had ever heard of.

Well wait till Monday and see what your dear says.
It might be setting waiting to be opened.
If he says "What are you talking about?",call the local
police as well as your local office of ATFE.

I had a dealer tell me he "CAN NOT TRANSFER MY GUN" once.
The rifle shipped to him from a non-FFL.
He told me he "called his ATFE contact" and he can't transfer it.
I told him he better get back on the phone fast,as when I got home
I'll be calling ATF myself.
I called my local office, and left a message for an agent.
45 minutes later,I was filling out my 4473 in his shop.
He never said one word to me,tossed his $20 on the counter, and have
never been back.
Mind you I've bought well over 20 guns from him and @5-7 transfers.
Found a different dealer that knows the laws,is friendly, and wants
me to come back again.

Good luck Monday, keep us posted on the out come.

To those who wanted to be kept posted, here's the gun with my pocketknife as it sits on my desk while I'm typing this. I was just being impatient I suppose but it was my first time buying online so I say I get a free pass :p

No, you are too nervous and fidgety to be trusted with a firearm and should send that to me for safe keeping. The knife too...
LOL

Glad it worked out for you I know the feeling of buying from others online and the product was sent but not arrived and no one wants to be bothered or have an answer and you just have to lose out.

How do you like it so far!? Shoot it yet?

Nope not yet....Sunday shall be the first day she gets any rounds put through her.

I've probably dry fired it about a thousand times though. Feels great in my hand. Since it's used the action's already been smoothed out. The big dot sight is pretty cool but I've heard they're not too accurate at distance. If I can get 4 or so inch groupings at 25yds i'll keep them on, otherwise i might consider swapping them out

Glad all came out in the end, try the stock grips, they will be so so, if you want to save yourself on a little recoil try some hogues. I would love to find some nice purdy wood ones for my Ruger if I could actually see some in person.

Excellent news! I'm very happy to hear you didn't get jipped. The first internet perchase is always a bit scary, I understand your concern, it's just so easy to get scammed from buying on the internet, thats why I always like to see some previous feedback before buying. About 10 guns later I am now wishing I never worked up the nerve.:p

Nice piece too.

Range report ASAP.;)
