Possible update, i'll know more in a couple hours
Got a phone call from a Detective at Taylorsville PD (a suburb of SLC, I guess? I have no idea) that they had run a sting and recovered my guns.
So, i'll call my detective at SLC in the morning, but that sure sounds like damn good news.
Said they were still in the bags, with mags, etc.

I just heard on a local radio station(AM 570) that 4 *assault* rifles were recovered by Taylorsville poilce. Report said they were stolen from a gun collectors car over the weekend.

Hoping it's you're guns they recovered.

Wow, that would be a stroke of incredible good luck to get them back so quickly. Especially with the number of stolen items (including my car :cuss: ) that are never, ever seen again.

Hope they did recover your rifles Brian, and that they were unmolested while in the creeps' possession.

Sounds like a twofer. One you got your guns back, and two the dirt bags will be away on a long honneymoon with a cell mate named Bubba.

Taylorsville is a suburb south west of Salt Lake. I drive through it to get home. Most of it is pretty nice, but it has a couple of dumpy neighborhoods.

I sure hope those were your guns.

Good news (I trust)! Another prayer of thanks and hope on the way. Keep us posted!

From the KSL story:
Police say those guns are extremely dangerous and they are relieved to have them away from the criminal community.

Wouldn't it be better if it said something like: Police say that the criminal community is dangerous, and they are relieved when law abiding citizens possess these types of guns

(We can dream, can't we?)

Brian - hoping this may by now be potentially resolved but anyways - short term at least have linked to this thread from Combat Carry.

When it comes to loss of guns - the more coverage the better IMO.

Yep
they are mine
Now, how I get them back is a different question, but they are in police custody (and as you can see by the photo it they were untouched).
The detective said they were still in their bags with everything.
so, hopefully, this should all be somewhat ok.
A lot of other little stuff is gone (including my prescription shooting glasses!!!!:cuss: ) but the big main portion appears to be at least possibly coming back.

lessons learned:
write down your serial numbers
don't leave ANYTHING in your car
don't ever stay at any Ramada's (less than helpful would be an understatement, I'll be interested to see which hotel employee it was:scrutiny: )

Now, how I get them back is a different question

Brian,

There are enough of us THRers in and around SLC that I'm sure someone could meet you at least halfway if the police were to release the rifles to us on your authorization (don't have any idea if that release is at all possible).

Great news!

This is awesome! Great news. Let us know how matters play out.

The question I'm dying to ask is how long were these firearms left unattended? What time of day were they left unattended?

Not that it matters but
overnight
same as the night before
same as the weeks before in Texas, Montana, California, Nevada, New Mexico

Only in SLC
inside job for sure.
