MCgunner,
Ike hit us on Sunday at 1 pm sustained winds over 75 mph gusts to 85 mph, 2 hours plus. Power was out until 10AM today.
I live in an old farm house that built in the middle of the woods in 1929, HAD been surrounded by old mature oaks hickory sugar maple.
Now get this , had the 60 ft top of one maple break off and drop between my house and the garage, had another uproot and drop between my garage and RV trailer, and another maple between the trailer and the barn. DID NOT HIT ANY STRUCTURE, the worst was it ripped the fabric cover on my RV.
Sounded like a freight train, constant howl, could hear the trees crack with a loud POP then the THUMP as they hit the ground. I watched from the shelter of the north side (lee) of the house as Ike came over the ridge from the south.
Took down four other trees on the west side of my property.
The area I live in is across the Ohio Rive from Louisville KY, southern Indiana. our county had 20,000 out of power and the Louisville Metro area around 300,000.
I now have a greater respect for the people that are caught up in mother natures fury, can't fathom what it must be like to take the brunt. We just got the leftovers .
The prayer needs to be for the poor that had to ride this thing out!
