My IDPA promo vid...

Hey all. Here’s a short vid I put up from an IDPA match I did. It’s hard to film, shoot, get others to film while you shoot, etc, etc, so forgive the incomplete nature of the vid, but I think it gets the idea to those who may have never tried it. Did it as a promo thing…

It was a small match and raining, so I just got some quick vid of the guys in my squad. These are not uber high level shooters (including yours truly) or anything, but as you all know who actually shoot (vs watch TV), shooting well while moving, having other things moving, using cover, tactical reloads, not hitting the “no shoots,” etc, etc is much easier said than done…practice, practice, practice, and all that…

If you have not done an IDPA match, it’s some of the best training a civilian can get on a regular basis without going broke (can’t fly off to Thunder Ranch every weekend!) and great for most LEO who may not get much shooting time via their depts., and such, which is why a good % of shooters at IDPA are LEO. I like it, it looks like shooting I might be able to actually acomplish, as opposed to the IDPA Vids I have seen in the past. Usually its someone scurrying around hitting targets at a rate of fire that's just a waste of money for me to attempt. My closest effectiveness would be to simply fire the first shot and throw a handful of change down range. But what you have shown looks realistic for mere mortals.

IDPA is a very welcoming group to ALL levels of shooters. The vids you often see are of expert and master level shooters, but at the local level, those are few and far between. IDPA also tends to be more about tactics, etc vs lots of rounds down range. I think the entire match was under 150rnds today. Find a club close by and give it a try, you will not regret it.

No quarter is my favorite Zep song also, and lesser known.


Don't know how I did at the match. Scores not up yet, but I don't think did great. Of course what I used in the vid was where I was having a good run! I often shoot well, then totally dump one stage, which kills my scores. My problem is consistency. I can shoot like a master on one stage, then like a novice the next...

IDPA....it's a game, right; you play it and know the rules of safety and engagement. you get comfortable with the varying target/shooting scenarios. until the start buzzer it is a game. AFTER the buzzer....your focused/immersed in the event; it becomes quite real. been 'playing' for many years and still get a real world rush.

Absolutely true around here! I participate and have a lot of fun in our local chapter matches - and I haven't even joined the Association yet!

I need to fix that soon, and kudos to IDPA.

The greatest surprise of all. I was going planning to go to a match yesterday but was still snoozing in the morning. My wife actually woke me up to say - Hey, aren't you going to a match?

Do you do two and three gun matches in IDPA? That is the stuff that appeals to me. I will always be better and more confident with a carbine rifle than with a handgun.
