I posted this over on blade forums and I thought y’all might like it here.
Well I have always been into knives and I bought a Camillus 709 from SMKW on the cheap about 15-20 years back. I think then it was like $10-$12. I ended up giving it to my mom. It ended up being her favorite knife (of only a few) and she carried it all the time.
Mom and I were traveling together and we had a car wreck about 6 years ago. She somehow lost the knife in the wreck or aftermath. She could only figure it fell out of her pocket and into the road.
Well I started the search and I found another 709 with slightly different handle scale colors on eBay. I think I gave like $40-$50 for it.
I presented it to my mom for her birthday a couple years ago, in a little wooden box I made just for her and the occasion.
This is that knife. Moms passed on from cancer now, but the knife and box is included in my most cherished possessions.
The box is locust wood, reclaimed from an old fence that was included in some firewood I bought. The base is cherry. The drawer is cedar and locust. Finish is formbys rung oil, at I’d guess a dozen coats.
Thanks for reading.
