Dear Mr. President;

I have voted Republican since 1980. I supported your election. Now let me tell you why I WILL VOTE for your opponent this election AND support him financially.

I oppose the Assualt Weapons Ban and strongly support allowing it to sunset this September. I won't go into details as many people have said it better than I including Senator George Allen of Virginia.

You have stated, without much conviction from how I read you responses, that you would sign a renewal if presented with it by Congress..

Mr. President, you must do all you can to Let the AWB SUNSET.

If you don't I assure you I will vote for Mr. Kerry NOT because I like him or even believe in him. At least with Mr. Kerry, the Republican party will align against anything else he may do to to further erode the second amendment and at that point I expect a political stalemate which is fine with me.

I pray almost daily for you and had the honor of telling that directly to your father, former President Bush, in the Summer of 2002. PLEASE do not let us down. I want you as president, but not at the cost of my rights..

Sungun...are you aware of the White House's actions to kill the AWB during the recent vote over the Firearms Manufacturers Immunity Bill?

That's the funny thing...he IS letting it die. There is no chance an AWB will go through either the house or the Senate after the Immunity Bill stalemate, IMHO.

Sungun09,

You should write a follow-up. In your best John Kerry Bellow "I will cut my nose off to spite my face".

I understand your feelings. But I believe Bush has effectively helped to kill the AWB behind the scenes.

Look, the guy has to get the soccer mommy vote. Do you expect him to have an 'evil black rifle' on the wall in the White House? An effective politician can do many things to enact or oppose legislation, other than making strong statements for or against.

You know I've seen this repeated over and over how..
GWB SAID HE WOULD SIGN THE AWB.blahblahblh

IIRC, GWB said he would sign it if it passed the House and Senate.... and made it to his desk. If I were you I would worry more about the Senate than GWB

C'mon folks its an election year. This forum doesn't seem to miss a beat parsing anything else....so maybe it's just me.

I believe it's called a calculated risk and one heck of a soundbite..nothing more nothing less

My hope is that it doesn't come back to haunt him like campaign finance reform :banghead:

I've got an idea... Let's all vote for Kerry because he didn't promise to enact more gun control. Then, after he's elected, and the Democrats screw us up even worse, then we'll REALLY have something to cry about.

Campers, we've got the enemy inside our wire...
