Lots of you guys have seen my little 9mm project progress from a standard 9mm to what I have now. I'm just about completed with everything except perhaps a light and forward pistol grip and then I'll move on to my next project.

So far I've got..
Rock River Mid Length 9mm Upper (Post Ban)
Kurts Railed Free Floated HGs w/ Knights RAS Panels
Kurts 9mm A3 Tac Brake. Barrel cut to 14.5" and Brake added
Bushmaster Lower (Post Ban)
Rock River Tactical type stock with 1" DPMS spacer and Trapdoor buttplate.

Took her out to the range today and snapped a few pics.

I think Kurts Tac Brake is a worth consideration if you want a pre ban look on a post ban rifle. Cutting the 16" barrel to 14.5 combined with the midlength grip gives it that "ultra short" look.

Dumb Question

I thought the barrel had to be 16" min. to be "street legal." Or does overall length trump the barrel length?
Anyway, cool lookin' carbine. How's it group?

How does she group?

I checked her after the barrel cut and it groups the same, 1" at 50 yards and 3" at 100. I suspect the increase in group size at 100 is due to increased sighting errors at that distance. I'll have to try a scope on her to really see what potential she has. Plus I'm using cheapo bulk pack Winchester FMJ.

Yep, as the Duke stated, the OAL is what matters and not the length of the rifled section. The key word here is permanently. If you had a military spec 14.5" M4 barrel with a threaded end you would have to have a muzzle brake or flash supressor permanently attatched to your barrel by pinning and welding/soldering. Although mine is a post ban, if it were a Pre Ban I could have a flash supressor, but I still couldn't get past having it permanently installed.

As for fun, I've had a blast with her! It's amazing how fast ammo goes, but then 100 rds is only 4 UZI mags worth.

Now I'm wondering if I want to build up a .45 carbine or just buy a USC.

Good Shooting
