I'm attending a citizen's academy put on by the Larimer County Sheriff's Office. The Larimer County Sheriff, Jim Alderden, is a very pro gun sheriff and is rather outspoken about it. Here's two of his editorial’s that got the anti's all worked up.

Anyways, last night was the first meeting of the Academy, and the sheriff himself gave a presentation for about 2 hours on the Department, its history, budget, organization, and so on. During the question and answer session, several people asked him about his policies on ccw, his editorials above, and why he does NOT have the sheriff's office posted as a no gun zone.
His comments were about as pro ccw as one could imagine, it was like I was giving the answers. I don't recall the exact words, but to paraphrase "No gun zones are worthless, they didn't do squat at Virginia Tech, and they wouldn't do squat here. Besides, anyone wanting to cause problems here is not going to go far with all the armed deputies".
Later on during the meeting, we were given a tour of the building by one of the lieutenants who's in charge of the building. During the tour, someone asked about why there are no metal detectors at the entrances. Once again, the answer was something that could have come out of my mouth.
To paraphrase: "Metal detectors are only useful if they are manned full time by armed deputies. They slow down building access to a crawl, and generally aren't worth the hassle until you need a 100% sterile area like a court room or jail. We have legally armed citizens coming here all the time, and what’s the point of hassling them? If a nut job wants to come here and cause problems, a metal detector isn't going to slow them down much. Besides, we have tons of law enforcement in the building, so a maniac won't last long here".
Makes me damn glad I voted for him
