Nice collection...here's mine:

1943 National Postal Meter/Union Switch & Signal USGI M1 Carbine with matching magazine pouch (same year and made less than 10mi. from my home).

:)

My Inland and IBM. The Inland is in almost new condition, all the parts seem to be correct as well. I'm refinishing the IBM to become a good shooter; I'm going to refinish the stock, have the metalwork re-parkerized, and replace the mag catch to a type IV (one of the reasons is because the current mag catch just sucks for the Korean KCI mags, the Inland has no problem whatsoever. I blame it on wear.)

Nice collection! I'd love Rock-Ola. Winchesters are cool too, considering they invented the little carbine.

I just have my little Inland, now back in the US after its tour of duty in Italy. I must thank the Italians for taking such nice care of its bore.

Really nice.
What's the difference between all these different makes like Inland, Rockola, Winchester, etc.? Are some more desirable than others?

The M1 Carbine was made by a bunch of different factories. The "interesting" ones, like the Rock-ola (jukebox makers) or National Postal Meter or IBM are generally more desirable than the relatively more common Inland (made by General Motors IIRC).

Add to that the fact that the smaller makers made fewer rifles, and they're necessarily more rare and more desirable by a bit. The quality is generally the same across all makers though, from what I understand.

Among the USGI makes, there really is no difference besides their birthplace. When someone says what brand their M1 Carbine is, it's where the receiver was made. The other parts can be from other contractors and frequently are. My IBM has several Inland parts. They're all GI Spec, so they work okay together... Desirability and rarity is mostly what seperate the contractors apart.

Now, the commercial versions, like Universal, aren't always to spec. There are several GI parts that just won't work in a Universal, and IMO, these commercial models just aren't as good. I've heard that Auto-Ordance/Kahr is better, but still not all USGI spec.

The green in the parkerizing came from cosmoline or oils; the parkerizing absorbs/hold oils to help further resist corrosion. Or so I was told.

just when I think my collection is complete....

The guys on this forum make me want dozens of more / different guns....

WOW! Those are nice....I need one....:uhoh:

Lots of nice carbines here!!! Just got 2 a few weeks ago at CMP's north store. Both barells guaged a little over 1. With all the driving and shopping I put in a 13 hour day but it was well worth it!! Finally got them out to the range this past weekend and I'll be damned if they both shoot very well.

My newly acquired IBM and Winchester carbines. :) By the way my IBM was also an Austrian return ~ 'Austrian' Landes Gendarmerie Kommando (Gendarmerie Command for the Land of). It was used in OberoÖsterreich (Upper Austria). It has reddinh tint, apparently the Austrian reblued them at an incorrect temperature.

IBM has the sling
