Hi, I am pretty new to this forum. I have been reading it for the past few months but this is my first post. I recently took my model 60 .22lr out and it would not shoot. I have had it for 2 years and had no problems (shot about 10,000 rounds). It would load from the tubular magazine right but after that I don't know what happens. It seems like the little clips that grab the round are not grabbing. I even had one round blow in the barrel.

There are no obstructions in the barrel. I think it is the clips because if I load a round, then pull the bolt thing back the round doesn't pop out like it used to. It just gets stuck and I have to use a knive to get it out.

As you can tell I don't know much about rifles. I own a benelli 12gauge and I could figure out problems with that if it had it but my rimfire is a little more complicated.

help please!

Oh, if I get it fixed I think I will go sell it at the pawn shop and buy an sks.

yeah I probably will, just have to find one now. How much do they normally charge for something small???

Do you have the instruction booklet that comes with the gun? If so, they are not hard to take apart and clean if you have any mechanical inclinations. If this is the first time in 1000's of rounds you may want to have a trustworthy gunsmith look at it and do the cleaning. Mine gets sticky if I don't clean it after every couple hundred rounds.

PS you will probably need a few more dollars for that SKS than your Marlin is worth.

My Model 60 is about 25 years old. It started "failing to eject" about 8 years ago. I took it to a 'smith and he taught me a lesson I'll pass on to you for free. Might solve your problem, or ti might not. But its easy to check

If you look at the chamber, where the bullets fit into the barrel, you will see a groove at 3:00 and 9:00. The extractors (which pull the spent brass out of the chamber after firing) go into these grooves. My grooves were full of 10 years worth of accumulated crud. He had me clean them out with a toothpick, and suddenly the gun started extracting again. The crud was preventing the extractors from going into the grooves far anough to fully grip the rim of the cartridge.

Give it a try, and see if it helps.

My Model 60 is now failing to feed properly, and I think its springs in the action (lifter springs?) this time.

thanks for the help dave I will try it out. Oh and Nickotym, I know the sks is gonna be more ,but I figured whatever I could get would help towards the payment. I went to the local pawn shop and the guy wanted $400 for the sks there. I told him there was no way I would even pay half of that! He just told me it was a hot item for the summer. It was used and didn't look in great condition.

Oh and I don't have the booklet that tells how to take it apart. Lost it somewhere in my move back from missouri this summer.

I am not very good with the mechanical stuff, but I would give a try if I had the instructions. Stupid me and my poor organizational skills! :banghead:

If it is only 2 years old send it to marlin. I think the warranty is 5 years. Mark

Don't take it to anybody or send it anywhere, yet. Just clean the chamber of the durn thing very, very well, including the extractor (the hook that pulls out the empties) and the slot it fits into. It's an autoloading .22 that you've had for a while, and has probably had several hundred rounds of dirty ammo through it. .22 ammo is generally filthy and will coat a chamber with grime in less than 100 rounds. I have to clean my 10/22 every couple of 100 to keep her running in tip-top shape.

yeah that is the thing I ride the mechanical short-bus and I couldn't disassemble it to clean. I got the stock off woo hoo that was a whole two screws, but then I didn't see anything that looked like it came apart.

ok so I took it apart with my dad and we cleaned it really good, and nothing seems to be wrong. The only thing we can see is that my left extractor is shorter and less prominent than my right(don't know if this is standard, cause it doesn't seem like it could move with the pin in there). Also, it works if I manually let the bolt go slowly (really slow). If at any time I let it go, the cartridge just gets pushed into the barrel and it isn't able to pull it out(also can't fire cause the firing pin is too far away).

Great thread. Good question and good answers. Does anyone know how to non-destructively swap out magazine tube springs? Or are they not usually a problem?
