Guys, I'm just like a kid at Christmas! I just got my Model 29-5 "Long Tom" back from Michael Gouse, who engraved it for me. The job looks great, and it's my first engraved gun that I commissioned, so I thought I'd share some pictures. Any defects are in the camera operator because the job came out just perfect.

I need to get some decent handles for it as it came with Pachmayr rubber which will not complement it as it is now. What do ya think?

Hey BigG,

That sure is a beauty! I wandered across a site with a pic of a S&W 629 Mountain Gun with Ahrends grips on it. Don't know if that is the type of grip you're looking for but it does look nice and functional. Here's the link to the site, and the pic off of it.

Thanks for looking, y'all!

Hexidismal: $450 on top of the gun.

CrazyIrishman: Those Ahrends are beautiful grips. We have a guy that comes to the gun shows in ATL who has a whole lot of nice furniture. I think he specializes in 45 Autos but seems like I've seen some N frame stuff too. I'll check his stock before I go looking too far elsewhere unless something just blows my socks off.

Wow. If you ever get tired of it, I'll take it off your hands.
Please post pics when you get the stocks on. I'm thinking scrimshaw ivory or pearl.

I don't much care for engraved guns. But I have to agree, that is a beautiful job. Whatever you paid, you got your $$ worth. Very nice.

I'm not a huge engraving fan - well, couldn't bring myself to spend sums like that but ....................

My - what a beautiful piece of artistry - that surely no one can deny. I would be more than happy to see a pristine set of Smith Target (diamond) grips on that - perfection then :)

Thanks, everybody!

I sent away for the Eagle Heritage grips. Will post photos when I get them. Appreciate everybody who viewed my pictures. It looks even better in person! :)

Ouch. That is a good lookin gun. I'm a sucker for blue 29s, and I think those Heritage grips are just the thang.

Thanks for the pics. Porn for gun freaks.

Very nice.

Gouse is actually pretty reasonable. He did a 100% coverage job on this M10 last year for $500.

Very nice BigG ! The Heritage Cokes are definitly cool! I just might spend $500 with Mr . Gouse myself after seeing his good work!:)

Michael Gouse can be contacted at This Site

Saxon Pig: Nice job - what material are the stocks of that Model 10 made of and who made them? Thanks!

BigG- They are of polished stag. I bought them from a part-time stock maker but I was unhappy with them as delivered. Fit was poor, the stocks were much too thick, and he said he couldn't put the emblems in (which I prefer). So, I thinned them and shaped them to fit the frame more precisely. I also mounted the emblems and was pleased with the results.

That is really a sharply decked out Model 10, bud. I'll bet you are bursting with pride, especially since you got the stocks looking so nice to go with the engraving. :)

I love the job Michael Gouse did on the 44 Magnum. Can't wait to see it with some decent stocks on it! Then, I'll shoot it to see how it feels with the wood grips. :)

I have a long barreled 22 Model 617 that I may send him. That's a nice shooter, also.

Here is a stupid question: I noticed no trigger in your first picture Big G. o you have to stip it? How is the gun refinished after (if it's blued I assume a SS gun is just polished) is that included ?
