I was hoping some of the seasoned guys could help me out.

Much like the 586 and the 686, I wish Smith and Wesson made a 529 and a 629. My life would be so much easier. I am looking to find a blued model 29 in a six inch, full under lug, barrel to compliment or possibly replace my current six inch model 29. Does such an animal exist or am I in the realm of a custom job or caving and just buying a 629?

Life will be so much easier and you will be so much happier if you just cave. Barring unforseen bad juju, the 629 is a great gun...

They do now make a 4" fully blued .44mag, but it's not a full underdog. It's one of the new Classic Series (a bit of an oxymoron of course).

The 29 Classic's are great guns. I have a 5" one, and I can shoot it better offhand than any of my other .44's.

Glad I could help. They are 29 classics from the 90s. They also made a Classic DX. Good luck on that one. If you don't win they come up from time to time on gunbroker. They are nice revolvers.

BobWright, if you don't mind me asking...
how much did that run you?
I've got a 6" half lug 629-6 I think I might try and have changed into a 5" classic.
I'd just buy one outright if I could find one easily enough and sell off the 6"

I just bought a 29-6 Classic same as the one above in the GB sale for $500.:neener:

Here's the email I just got bac from a Smith and Wesson rep.

Dear Customer,

The barrel you are looking for is not made. We have a 6.5 inch bbl but only half lug. A refinish job costs 275 dollars and takes about 12 weeks.

Smith and Wesson values all of its consumers and are happy to have assisted you to the best of our ability today. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require further assistance.

Sincerely,
Rob

New guy here. I found a used Model 29 classic hunter. It has the full lug and non fluted cylinder. It took me a while but found quite a few listed. If you're patient enough, you can find one. Best of luck to you. Here is mine.

My dream 29 was a Dirty Harry version. Found one a few years back that had gone to TK Customs a long time ago and had an action job done to it. It's a frighteningly good gun.

Variation on the Classic Hunter. Bought new in 1988. It's from a special run that S&W did for Lipsey's and includes a front sight adjustable for four different distances or loads.
