I finally got a TRUE Trophy Buck

Here is a pic. Wow, I have wanted to harvest a buck like this for a long long time. I cannot wait until I get it back from the taxi and get in on the wall. I have a special place for it.

I scored this buck yesterday before I took it into the Taxi and want to point out up front that I AM NOT AN OFFICIAL SCORER.

That being said here is what it scored:

Gross: 154 4/8

Net: 151 2/8

I have always dreamed of getting a 150 class buck...

Very nice. Let me ask you, when you saw him what did you think he would score or did you just know it was a shooter? I enjoy mentally scoring deer when I see them and comparing that to what they actually score.

atta boy!!
bet yer heart liked to have stopped for just a second, huh?
congrats,

dan

Guys,

First thanks,

As for my heart stopping it did not have time. I had seen a couple of nice bucks earlier in the week that I passed on...a real wide 8 point..which was a little young and a narrow and young 10 point two days earlier. So when I initially saw this buck I lifted the binocs a little nonchalantly and saw that maybe he was a good one so I grabbed my rifle and looked through my scope at it...when I saw the G4's and how long they were I realized I was looking at a real big buck. I thought for a half a second about grabbing my camera and first getting a couple of good photos and then I remembered a couple of lost ops in the past so I immediately flipped the safety off and put the crosshairs just behind his shoulder and waited until the doe behind him cleared and even though he was not broadside I took the shot...twice in the past I have waited on a nice buck to take the PERFECT SHOT and never got a shot. Both times they slipped into cover never to be seen again. So I decided not to let it happen this time and as soon as the doe cleared I squeezed the trigger. he only ran about ten yards. I have to say that seeing the other nice bucks earlier this week and the fact that this all happened so fast helped me with my nerves because althought it took me a few minutes to type this up this all happened in seconds this past Sat.

As far as scoring him...the only thing I thought was...wow this is a big one.

Yes, the G4s and the brows are awesome. Nice G3s too. You make a good point about putting down the bino's and using your scope to look.

Deer, AWESOME!!! Did you win a Muy Grande contest down there? My dad and I used to hunt down there for several years. I can't remember if he won one for widest rack or if he was one of the runner up, but it did draw some attention. I won one of them for heaviest doe.

Unfortunately, my biggest rack buck was in another state.

Muy Grande contest...no at least not yet. I have been convinced by a freind to get him scored by a certified scorer and enter him in the Texas Big Game Awards so tomorrow I am going by the Taxi to see if one of those guys is an official scorer or if they might be able to direct me to one and then get him entered.

I know there are some local contests down near Freer, but I def believe you should do well in the Texas Big Game contest. Let me know how it goes. And congrats.
