Dang Hands, thank you for your service young man. Please keep us informed on how your career goes. When do you go to basic and such?

The only advice I can give you about basic is don't take it too seriously.

Remember its all a game and if you play it correctly you'll have no trouble.

I got back by spending my last 6 month as a DI. Hard to keep from smiling as I was yelling at them for some minor thing, remembering when I was on that end of it. Get ready by doing a lot of running before you get there. Makes life a lot easier with all the PT.

Oldnamvet, thank you for your service! :) I have been getting a lot more exercise nowadays.

Although I must confess I felt aweful silly the other day... are you ready for this? I ran all the way to the store from my house to buy some smokes. I don't know if I should laugh at myself or cry! :D

Busy, take it from a former smoker and very recent heart attack patient; quit now and don't look back. No matter how it makes you feel at this point, it is not your friend. It will kill you slowly, like a California politician. Learn to hate it. Get mad with it and throw it away from your life forever.

The only smoke you need comes from the Holy Black.... the Holy Smoke!

Levi, I quit after 42 years. I had tried everything from accupupncture, hypnosis, stop smoking clinic, Chantix, patches. Nothing worked. On Aug. 5, 2010 I had enough faith in The Lord that He could take away my addiction. I bowed my head in prayer and asked Him to take it from me and He did. I had zero withdrawals. The Lord was just waiting on me to ask Him.

Take care and God bless,

Ken

I too smoked for almost 40 years. I tried I don't know how many times to quit. The way finally quit was to buy blackpowder guns believe it or not. My wife and I made a deal that I if quit smoking I could use the money I spent on smokes to buy black powder guns. I decided that I wanted the guns worse and I quit cold turkey and haven't had a cig in over 7 years now. I think I have actually spent less on all the guns and ammo(both BP & smokeless)that I have bought over the last seven years than I would have spent on smoking and have a lot more to show for it. Anyway it worked for me.

Yep all of the above and sing (loud) while you are running. This is a skill you will need. Pushups, situps, and pull ups. Also climb stuff.

Like some of the others above I smoked for far too long (~25 years) and tried to quit many times. My last attempt lasted a mere 3 days before SWMBO said she couldn't take my attitude problem and a crying baby and made me get a pack.

Later I prayed about it and He took it all instantly, including the withdrawals. That was about 3 1/2 years ago.

I must tell you, in case you are unaware, that the tobacco companies got caught in the late 90's putting unnecessary chemicals that alone were addictive. They also found out they had been researching what it takes to make a smoker and found that people needed to be coerced while young and so began shifting towards how to get kids smoking.

I smoked Marlboros and when I switched to a cigarette that claimed to not have any additives I found I felt the need to smoke another as my body didn't get what it needed (chemicals). So I have concluded that they just found new chemicals to use.

Do yourself and your family a favor and stop now while it's easier. It'll also help fund more important things.

Now I'll just smoke a good "Cuban" (Avo) cigar once in a blue moon (haven't since I quit smoking though).

Heck, At $6. a pack x 2 packs a day, plus gas, Dr. and er bills, stent implants, inhalers I did the math months ago and I have saved over $12K in about 3 years. The best part is my breathing is better, my smell is better, I am no longer a slave.

Don't give up trying to quit. With God all things are possible.
