Nice revolver, and a birth year gun to boot, count yourself lucky. Those Detective Specials are prized as carry guns here in the states.

Those are some of the best of the snubbies and having the same date of birth add a nice touch of class.

Treat her well.:D

Mizar--

Nice pony! I wonder if you can tell us a bit about gun ownership in Bulgaria? Laws, ability to carry, etc.? I'm also interested in what you had to pay for your Dick Special, if you don't mind me asking?

Well... First you must go to a 3 day shooting cource (in which you learn nothing...) then you must take a certificates for: Beeng in good mental health, that you are not convicted for felony and not beeng investigated for such. Then you file an application to the (something like yours) BATF department of local police station. Then you wait... After a month you MAY get a permit to buy a firearm, which is valid for 3 months. After buying the desired piece you apply for permit to store AND carry. Actualy, allmost everibody gets a licence to carry, valid for 3 years (the firearm must be carried concealed). After the given period of time you reapply for another 3 years of joy. Thats about it...
The price I payed was 390 $ - a real gift for me. Especialy when a charming redhead calls you "dark jedy" at the shooting range...
P.S. I am sorry, but I was wrong for the proof marks - they are austrian.

Interesting. In some ways Bulgarians have more freedoms in the area of CC than many Americans.

Uh BTY whats a "Dark Jedy"?

Mizar,

Thanks for the info....just a couple of questions to clarify:
--Do you have to take the three day class for each and every gun you want to buy? Or can you take the class once and be good for a certain period of time?

--Are the "Austrian proof marks" actually importers marks? I can't imagine what a Colt pistol would be doing getting true proof marks in Austria.

BTW--That's an very good price for a clean Detective Special--in America. You must be a lucky guy to grab one for that in Bulgaria (of course, if you've got redheads rubbing up against you at the range, you ARE a lucky guy!).

Sorry to hear that Cougfan - I will send you my old one, if you can cleen all of the cofee and beer stains from it...:)
Mr. Snake, for the first question: you take this class just once and you are "good" for your lifetime.
2. yes, they are a proof marks indeed - on the barrel there is a stilized eagle (I don't know yet what exact type of proofing it meens) - and on the frame - PNv, which means "nitro powder proofed - Viena" followed by a number - 377...
I dont know if my information is correct, but I did read somewere that all of the imported firearms in Austria (and in Germany also) must be proof-tested.
P.S. This redhead has more guns than me and she shoots better than me... I'm frustrated...
Best

Very nice Colt! I have a "birthyear" Colt revolver too, albeit, mines a Trooper MKIII .357 mag in nickle finish though. But having a NICE gun, from the same year you were born is pretty neat (and kinda extra special) in my opinion.I especially like mine, since it was bought by my father just a few months after I was born, so that increasd the "neat factor" quite a bit for me...:) Congrats!
