I decided to pick up this E Series 1911 yesterday at my local shop, she was just too pretty I had to bring her home.

Those do look nice!

I really like the bob tail commander... if only they didn't have front serrations. :(
 
Thanks guys, I'll get a range report asap. Almost made it to the range today but something came up so I'll have to wait until next week sometime.

I'm not sold yet on the fish-scales, but not per se opposed

Fish scales! I don't think so! Those are fire breathing dragon scales:evil:

Rapture is a little different. That Smith is really nice, but it's not "world's gonna end" kinda nice!;)
 
Very nice.

I love that S&W left the FPS off on these and instead went with a titanium FP and an extra power spring. Personally I would prefer the "Raptor" serrations on the front were not there, but I could live with them. I really like the look of the grips.

I bet S&W sells a ton of these. Congrats on a fine looking, and I bet great shooting, Smith 1911. Great pics by the way.
 
Great looking pistol, congratulations.

I've always thought the S&W 1911's were a good choice. I like the the new "E" series even better.

There. That's better. Got mine about a month ago and added new stocks (The Finer Grain and Sarge's Grips). A few things worth mentioning for those interested, based on my impressions.

Trigger creep was rather notable and pull weight by guess was around 6 lbs. but fairly crisp.

Grip safety was a bit sticky due to a burr hanging on the stirrup.

S&W milled quite a bit of metal out of the frame, me thinks to make an 80 Series/Swartz version down the road??? That or they just got lazy with reprogramming.

The front strap checkering is very well executed but as anyone who is familiar with Sarge's stocks can see Smith didn't radius the frame properly. Take note of the amount of flat showing as compared to this Colt also wearing Sarge's stocks.

Those few bits aside I'm happy with its performance thus far and I'm sure the OP is gonna enjoy his too. The fact that the SW1911 has an outstanding track record for reliability makes it well worth the asking price and making it look good doesn't hurt the arguement either.

I have a couple of the older Smith 1911's. Both have been good guns. Just to reply to one of the posters th earlier Smiths had a modified series 80 type safety that most of us don't really care for. It works off the grip safety and not the trigger. The system uses a small lever to push the firing pin safety up. My early "Billboard" models fps got out of time and made the gun a paperweight. Smith fixed it but I don't like it. My Gunsite has given me zero problems. But their are some complaints about problems with some of the early extractors having problems. Seems like the E series was to address these problems. I'd take the fps out of my Smiths but I don't want to void the warranty. except for the fps getting out of time on thefirst gun they have been some of the most accurate and reliable 1911's I've ever owned.
 
One of the big selling points for me on the E-Series was the lack of the FPS. Also the improved extractor and firing pin.

It seems that unlike like some gun companies that try to find fixes for non-existent problems S&W actually wanted to improve the SW1911 and did a good job of it.

My only complaint is that S&W used a FLGR, although it's an easy fix so it doesn't bother me all that much. Other than that I'm very pleased with everything about this gun.
 
I've heard that they are just major pieces of dog poo! You had better send it to me to do a thorough evaluation before you hurt yourself.

Oh, yeah, color me jealous.
