Ive always liked the looks and KISS attitude of the M16A2 and knew that one day I just had to have one. I saw on another board that a place called Ohio Ordnance Works had great condition USGI A2 uppers from FN and being a bit of a FN fanboy, that day has arrived. They are within an hour of where I live so yesterday I picked one up in person.

$325 +tax for complete (less CH,FA, and BCG) genuine FNMI A2 upper.

Here she is on my PSA lower from my PSA 16" middy with FN barrel. PSA is having a huge labor day sale so I have all parts on the way for a fixed stock dedicated A2 clone lower.

I really like how the 20" barrel balances. USGI handguards feel a lot better than I had expected. Overall Im really impressed so far and she seems like a keeper.

Congrats, that's really neat!

I like the A2 type as well, got a lot going for them.

For some crazy reason I have had no joy with Carbine extension tube lowers on my 20" barrel guns! The timing just does not work for me , whereas the rifle buffer lowers on the 20" uppers are flawless, go figure!

Thanks for the kind words guys. Im already getting anxious waiting for the parts to complete the lower to get here. Found a FN contract BCG from Toolcraft with cage code stamped carrier. Should be pretty nice when its complete. Ill post pics of final build when its done. So far Im diggin the A2.

Looks very nice. You mentioned Toolcraft. Is this the Toolcraft in western NC? Because if it is, you have got yourself probably the best BCG made, bar none. Congratulations!

The 20" barrel balances great. And with the A2 stock its easily the softest shooting AR Ive had. The first shots out of the rifle I sat at a bench@ 50y. I dont usually shoot for groups and never shoot from a rest. Just elbows on the table. I loaded 8 rds. of XM855 green tip to check zero. 8 rds. measured 1.375". I was blown away. Im not really a group type shooter so Im very happy.

Thing I like the most is that big .mil is never gonna go back to irons. Itll be scopes and dots from here on out. This rifle almost represents the end of an era. The era of the rifleman.

I like the A2 profile, and it handles pretty well (a lot better than HBAR, that's for sure), but I really wish somebody would make a 20" 1/7 twist MPI/HPT upper with the barrel relieved after the gas block down to the same profile as it is before the gas block (like the old A1 profile). I REALLY love how those A1's handle. I would just get an A1 barrel, but I don't like how you can't use anything longer than 55 grains with the 1/12 twist. I guess there is always the option of taking it to a smith and having him put it on a lathe and then re-park, but that seems a bit extreme to just shave several ounces off the muzzle end, when the A2 profile is good enough to get the job done as is.

I sware though, those old A1s handle better than most 16" carbines I've played with.
