You can easily reload for 7.5 French using cut down 6.5 Swedish Mauser brass (6.5x55) necked to .308. No need to convert the rifle to .308 or buy crummy surplus.
I had one in just as nice shape but the lack of ammo was a major draw back. I still have some french surplus but the last time out I had several hang fires. A Portugese (sp) company made some but it didn't have enough power to work the bolt. Its an excellent rifle in a lousy caliber. I traded it and an excellent Mas36/51 in toward a PTR-91 a true 308. Good luck with it, I gave up.
Well I took out my new acquired MAS today after the IDPA match. The first 20 rounds just went into the berm while I was waiting to post up some targets. The pictures are of the next ten. 50 yards, rested. Not to bad.
Some observations:
The trigger is really heavy, but smooth.
The front sight post is really fat, and is easy to see. I like it.
The scope is pretty nice. It has a clear, bright picture.
Unfortunately, the eye relief (correct term?) sucks , move a tiny bit in any direction, and poof! no picture
Recoil is pretty tame, of course the rifle is rather heavy.
Generally fun to shoot!
