Hey guys, thought I'd share this with you. My dad and I just finished a gun cabinet that we started about a couple months ago. Made entirely out of sassafras. I only have 3 guns in there now just for show, but of course I'll have a lot more in there :D

Very nice work! A piece you'll be proud of for years...decades!

I have the one my dad made in the '60's. I just love the look of a wood and glass gun cabinet. Kind of warms the room. Even my wife likes the look and she liked yours, too.

Good work! Now the next thing you need to do is put a strip of wood across the back, with notches to hold the gun barrels, and another piece across the bottom, with notches to hold the butts. As it is now, there's no way to place the guns securely in the cabinet.

That's a beauty.:) I wish I was in a safe enough location that I could display my guns where they could be seen and not worry about theft. How many guns did you plan to store there when making it? It looks like there will be room for a good many.:D I have an uncle that put hooks in the inside top front and is able to hang pistols from the trigger guards above the rifle barrels towards the front and this seems to work well. I do like the look of the sassafras that you used. Is that stained or the natural color?

I can only repeat what has been said, That is beautiful wood. and you do need racks to make it fully functional. aside from that. NICE indeed.

Nice work, and kudos on spending time building it with your dad. I'm sure you'll both look back on that with fond memories.

In Canada we use to look forward to building and displaying our guns in cases as beautiful as yours. With the passage of gun control on the premise of "safe Storage", everything is stored in steel lockers or safes. You never get to enjoy the esthetics of having a fine firearm.

Being sassafras, does it smell good while working the wood, or has the curing process taken the odor away?

A very nice peice of work!

It's very handsome. Nice work. Of course the problem with a traditional gun cabinet is the lack of security.

Thanks for all of the compliments :D Yes we actually just finished up the piece to hold the guns in place so they won't fall. But to those who have asked, I put a stain on the sassafras and then put a coat on Tung oil on it, and finished it off with two coats of polyurethane. Unfortunately it covers the awesome smell of the wood, but hey it looks nice.

Very nice work and it does look beautiful, but I sure wouldn't have put poly over tung oil or any other finishing oil for that matter. Hope the finish holds up.

Very nice. It's kinda like a fish bowl you can sit in front of it for hours and just stare.

I remember growing up no one knew or saw a metal gun cabinet at any home I went in.

Boy how times have changed.
