I wish to get a CC holster for my new kimber 1911,4" barrel. Which holds closest to your body?,
Paddle type, thru the belt,or the snap on the belt type (Galco), Any suggestions? Thanks,SAM

Anything outside-the-waistband (OWB), like a paddle or a slide, will be harder to conceal and hold the pistol further from you than an inside-the-waistband (IWB).

Key attributes of a holster should be weapon retention, protection for the weapon's safeties, ease of reholstering (many NDs happen when reholstering due to the pulling the trigger while trying to reholster a loaded weapon) ease of removal, concealability, and speed of draw.

I prefer OWB paddles, even tho they're harder to conceal, because they're easier to take off/put on. I prefer Kydex to leather because Kydex makes it easier to reholster.

I recommend a dual clip style IWB holster, just as easy to put on and take off as an OWB paddle.

The dual clip design spreads the weight over a larger area (and your 1911 isn't the lightest thing), it also holds the weapon very securely and snugly to the body thus aiding in concealment.

Biggest downside is that you'll likely have to order a holster and wait for it.

Here's some suggestions:

There are others out there, but you get the basic idea.

I'm a big fan of comp-tac too. I've been using a minotaur for just over a year, with no issues.

I think you'll find that holsters are like a lot of things in life...what's good for the goose is not necessarily good for the gander.

You're just going to have to try a bunch of them to find out what suits you the best.

You'll have just about as much trouble choosing your clothing for proper concealment.

I, personally, like Fobus paddle holsters. They hold the firearm close to the body. They work well with sweaters or leaving the shirt untucked.

If I'm not tucking in a shirt or wearing a sweater, I carry my Beretta Tomcat in the watch pocket of my jeans. A mouse gun in the watch pocket is pretty well concealed if you blouse your shirt. If you hang your cell phone off the inboard belt loop, the protruding Tomcat's grip looks like a pager.

Just my .02 cents.

One key (IMO) for anyone carrin' a 1911-pattern pistol is to make sure that the holster has a sweat guard/shield that separates the thumb safety from your body. I've had a few holsters that did not, and when I took the holster off I found that the safety had been disengaged by my inner garments sometime during the day.

Right now, I'm on a Minotaur kick and have 'em in OWB and IWB styles. They're comfortable, easy to draw/reholster, have good retention, have a sweat guard that shields the thumb safety on my 1911s, and Comp-Tac has them delivered to my door in less than two weeks after I order them.

I like the Minotaur design (especially the adjustibility of it) and would have bought one of those instead of the Side Guard except that they don't make one for my little SW99c
