Went to check out a new gun shop Tuesday and there it was, calling my name. I asked to look at the Nighthawk Custom T3 he had in the case and that was all it took ... well, that and about $3,000! It's my first high end gun and likely my last so I figured, you only live once.

I haven't had a chance to hit the range yet, between the rain and other obligations it just hasn't happened. Looks like rain again today too! :banghead:

Well, life is too short to shoot an ugly gun. :)

It shows a lot of attention to detail, e.g., the serrations on the rear end of the slide and the muzzle crown. What kind of rear sight is that? I like its design - you can still catch it on your belt or something if you need to jack the slide one-handed, yet the corners are rounded so as not to snag clothing or cut your hand. The dot is unusually placed. Also, who made the magazine, and how many come with the pistol? It looks like the new Wilson design, or a Novak.

Looking forward to a range report, especially reliability.

WOW! That is one great looking pistol! Everything one would need on a Commander sized 1911. A good no-nonsense business gun.
I too like the sights, they look to be Heine "Straight 8" w/ tritium. Great tgt crown on bbl.
Fantastic 1911...just right!

Thanks all, I'm lovin' this new gun ... at least until my wife finds out how much it cost.
Let's see:
- Sights are Heinie Slantpro Straight Eights w/tritium
- Pistol comes with 2, 7 round OACP mags made by ACT-Mag in Italy. From what I understand, they make the mags for Novak as well.
- There's also a certificate included with the gun for 6 additional mags for $99.95, I ordered those yesterday since I needed Officer's mags anyway - all my others are for Gov't models.
- The mag well is something new for this model. The grip frame is reduced and then the mag well blended in so the frame is only 1/8" shorter than a fullsize. It gives a nice, full grip - at least for my average sized mitts.
- Finish is black Perma Kote. I've never used this before but it seems evenly applied and looks like it'll do a good job against corrosion.

I've got a MaxCon V on the way for carry once I've tested it (the gun) out. A total of 8 ACT mags en route, though I'll likely still order at least 2 Wilson 47-OX mags for carry, they give me a warm fuzzy feeling when seated in my guns.

The grips are aggressively carved G10. I'd say they're definitely not going to shift under recoil but I may switch to something a bit less aggressive. My hands can take it but my fatboy sides are getting rubbed a bit when I carry IWB and move certain ways.

It looks nice, but I'm still trying to raise the numbers of my collection. I could buy 4 to 6 high quality guns for the same price, and that is what I would do if I had that cash laying around. But, hey, if you've got the dough to spend, it's a nice gun.

$3,000 that's a sweet deal, but where's the car, I only see a gun in the photo.

;)

"$3,000 that's a sweet deal, but where's the car, I only see a gun in the photo."

I know what you mean, seems like it should at least make coffee in the morning ;). After this gun, I'm back in the Springfield, Colt, S&W price range for any future purchases. It was my one "had to have it" indulgence ... although the Wilson black over gray CQB they had was UBER sweet too. The deciding factor for me was, the CQB was a full size and I really wanted a Commander with traditional bushing.

Well, retail was $2699.99 and our State and local taxes came to $249.75. Our Legislature avoids an income tax by having one of the highest sales tax rates in the country .

Other than that, it's an issue of what the market will bear I suppose. I wasn't so much set on a Nighthawk but I knew the features that I had to have on my dream gun and the T3 came the closest to my list. Actually, it met all my requirements but also came with some options I didn't necessarily need (like the mag well and straight 8s).

The serrations on the back of the slide are really nicely done but things like that add to the final cost. Then again, if it didn't have the flush cut slide stop with chamfered slide hole I'd either send it in to have it upgraded or have my local 'smith do the work. I've liked that option since the first time I saw it years ago.

I fondled one a few weeks back after the local shop got a nice shipment of them. The grips have to be experienced to be understood and appreciated, but yes, they are very aggressive. I love them. Nice pistol, and the envy of many. Congrats - you have a beautiful piece of skilled workmanship in your hands.

And yes ... RANGE REPORT!

the T3 is my idea of the ultimate carry gun, except for the steel frame...it wish they offered it in Ti

i have mixed feelings on the flush muzzle, as the barrel isn't pointing straight when locked up...does that mean they've cut it at an angle?

i doubt it will ever be approved for CA, so it looks like i'll have to have one custom built if i want one that bad.

very nice looking gun...enjoy

very nice and congrats thanks for sharing, and i sure hope that you give up a couple good range reports as there are too few range reports on the nighthawk guns on the web.

hey and some pics of it in action would probally be more than i could handle.

if i were to get a high end 1911 it would definetly be a nighthawk.

If you say you could buy 5 or 6 quality guns for that price you just don't get it LOL
I have been shooting and collecting guns for 20 years The only guns in my collection worth 5-600 are my carry guns! I can't buy a gun for under 1500 that floats my boat. Everyone should own at least one truly custom gun and guys that cost money! YOu did good! I am sure your going to love her! Maybe your next post will be about the $6000 benchrest rifle/scope you had built! but then they'll be people saying they could have bought 15 rifle/scope packages for that

quality does cost money, but it takes experience to appreciate it.

i just got an Anschutz bolt-action .22lr and i could have gotten four CZ 452 Americans instead...but you do owe it to yourself to occassionally indulge...hell, i paid more for the scope than a CZ

if i could wait for a custom gun...and i didn't live in CA...i'd already own a T3.
