My new (old) Colt 2nd Generation Army!

Well I did it.

Look what the brown truck delivered for me today!







It's a Colt 2nd Generation, in the box, all the paperwork, never fired. And to think it has been patiently sitting and waiting in it's box for 27 years for me to come and make friends with it.

I just had to have a real Colt. And wow, what a difference to the Italian repros. Just all around smoother, better fit, better action, the inner workings were all factory polished and fitted, I couldn't be happier!









I like that it's the full fluted version as well. It's really different and cool. I'm gonna order a spare full belted cylinder for it so I can swap them out when I want.



Here is my whole cap and ball collection now.
From left to right, Uberti 2nd Model Dragoon, Pietta 1860 Army, Colt 2nd Generation 1860 Army, Uberti 1851 Navy, Uberti Remington 1858 New Model Army, stainless.

Bravo. Bang away. That's a beautiful 1860, and I'm quite envious. I remember seeing those in a local gun shop when they were new. I should have bought a few then.

So where, and how much?

Great Gun! I bought my first BP revolver a month ago.1860 colt, very accurate. I hope to have a collection like yours someday. I',m now looking for a Colt Navy 1851, it was a hard decision on which one to buy knowing I would want the other one,regardless of my decision. After I buy the Navy, then what will be next, how about a Walker?

I bought a wedge for a Uberti 1860 to use since the wedge is numbered. I thought I would keep the original wedge out of use since they take a lot of abuse. The Uberti wedge works great.

Well I have to keep some secrets now don't I?

I searched around for some time, the auction sites etc, started following a few of the dealers that had them and made some contacts that way. I finally settled on this one that I found in a shop in southern california. Let's just say it was somewhere between 6 and 7.



Sorry no range report yet, weather turned gray and rainy today. I will bring my camera when I go though!

Thanks, that's a really good idea! I might swap the wedge out on mine too for an Uberti wedge. I am going to use a different cylinder for shooting, I don't want to mark up the fluted cylinder with drag marks and dings so I think after trying it out once or twice I will swap in an Uberti cylinder as well. Already ordered and on the way.

Yeah, an 1851 2nd gen Navy would be nice too! You should probably go for the Walker next!

I also ordered a wedge screw and a trigger screw just to see if they would work,they worked also. The Uberti nipples will not work in the Colt cylinder, they have a different thread. Let me know how the Uberti cylinder works out.

Nipples won't fit because your Colt must be built between 1978-1982 per below.

From the Bluebook of Modern Blackpowder Arms,

...from 1978-1982, Colt subcontracted both parts procurement and final production to Lou Imperato and Iver Johnson Arms in Middlesex, NJ. Colt percussion revolvers produced by Iver Johnson had frames, center pins, nipples, and screws manufactured in the United States.

I haven't tried my "C' series Navy's to see if Uberti Nipples will fit or not, but I high doubt that these were some of the rough castings provided by Uberti for the "C' series. i do know that both my "C" series 1851 Navys take CCI #10 Caps and the Uberti's and Pietta's I have had all took #11's.

The 1860 is one of the signature series, I think they were made in the early 1990's. I really like the gun it shoots great, 2 to 3" groups at 25 yds.

That's a good price. I can't seem to find one for much less than $1000. There's one on Gunsamerica right now for $995, and a cased pair for $1795. Actually, that's not bad for this cased pair. The guns are still in their original wrapping.
