My new Survival Gun

The German made Weihrauch real-steel Beeman R7 and R1s are very accurate and heirloom weapons with clockwork-like adjustable triggers. The consumer-grade Gamos, newer Beemans, Crosmans, etc etc generally speaking are not in the same league (with notable exceptions, I'm sure). I believe you can still buy the Weihrauch/Beeman R7s and R1s new from places like Arizona Airguns (if they're still in business). Anyway, I've had mine for many years and put thousands of rounds through them, and they are just humming along beautifully.

IMHO air rifle is not the best option for survival. The .177 is garbage it carries too much and the lead pellets are worthless (alloy and heavy weight are the only way to go). As for the .224 it is better but still not excellent. I hate the inconsistency I always get from break barrels, and the inability to group at further distances (.22LR is much easier/less expensive to own and operate). I would shoot at 50 yds and get zero'd then come back the next day at 3'' high, then 2'' low etc, I just never felt I could say "Well I need to eat. It's pellet time!"

A quality air rifle is the most accurate rifle in the world with in it's limits - key word Quality - spring guns are great but even the finest need to be tuned by an air gunsmith - I have several air guns - here is a pix of my pre-charge - not cheap but the quality is there - this one is made by Air Arms with custom wood - extremely accurate - this is my hunting rifle in 22 cal. - but please don't under estimate the .177 - tom
