Should the slide be so loose when locked that it rattles when I shake it. None of my Glocks,XDm's or CZ's make this rattling noise. Is it safe to shoot? I am a bit apprehensive.

I would treasure all of your input. Before I call SW customer service

Thanks, buddhas

I think that's the barrel making the noise, not the slide. With the slide locked back, the barrel is "floating" in the slide and can rattle. You should be good.

ETA:

If I misunderstood and you meant with the slide locked forward, then you might want to have it checked.

I just picked mine up and shook it. There is a bit of a rattle and I can move the slide side to side on the frame. This is normal as the rails are designed smaller that the grooves in the slide.

Is it a problem when you shoot it. At the last IDPA match, we had a 20-25yard shot and mine put 2 rounds into the target ~ 2" of each other.

FWIW: my Glock G19 and G22 make the same sound when shaken as does a H&K USP

I think I will trade this pistol for a new CZ -P09. I believe this pistol will never lockup correctly and will always be an accuracy limited weapon.

Thanks for the info. buddhas

Considering you haven't even shot it, I would say that you are making a very poor decision to sell it based on it "always being an accuracy limited weapon"....

In my experience, the M&P Pro line is every bit as accurate (usually moreso) than Glock pistols.

But heck, if you want to sell it then I'll give you $300 for your accuracy-challenged gun.

I traded for a new 5” M&P Pro 2 weeks ago and it rattles just like yours does. I’ve already put 500 rds through it without issue, and its accuracy is on par, maybe better than the other pistols I own.

The only fault I found with the pistol was the gritty take-up on the trigger, and that was fixed with a combination of shooting, dry firing, lightly sanding the bar where it contacts the FP block, and some lube.

Before you trade what might be a perfectly good pistol, most likely for a loss, I’d shoot it a bit.

many guns rattle when shaken, it is really a personnel choice to get rid of one for that reason. Sometimes it's the mag . or the barrel as mentioned, even the firing pin safety, "if the spring is going". I have seen it more on less expensive guns, although it can happen on any gun. Check the mag first, by removing it and see if that was it. A loose fit or bad spring, or base plate, can do that.
If it's the slide, check the recoil spring.

I haven't drunk all the Cool-Aid yet. buddhas

My old SIG P226 rattles like crazy with the slide forward. However, if you check the barrel/slide lockup, it is as tight as a drum.

Like an M4, the accuracy is in the upper, which also has the sights.

I'll give you $50 for it.

My lock up was loose . I traded for a new CZ P-09.

They don't feel as tight as Glocks; I noticed that the first time I ever picked one up and it is true of all of them as far as I can tell.

This is what mine can do at 50 yards, offhand, FMJ bullets, mixed headstamp brass, stock sights, near stock trigger, with a guy driving it who has never been a bullseye shooter. And 28k rounds through it previously:

I am extremely happy with CZ pistols by and large. With a pistol built this loose[ S&W] I can't see any thing but problems long term. Any time you alter or improve you void S&W's warranty. I just don't want the grief of S&W's answer "it is within factory specs".

I am done with it. Good Riddance. Buddhas

Seems you had your mind made up that you weren't keeping the M&P. And I dont think you got the input that you were maybe expecting. I think many of us have been in the same spot when we get a gun that we paid hard earned money for only to find out something is not right regardless if its a perceived problem or not. That is annoying and majorly frustrating and inconvenient.

Its not my gun or anyone else's but I think the folks posting were just trying to help by advising to first shoot it or contacting S&W and at least giving them the chance to assist.

Regardless of all that, you got the CZ you wanted and are happy and thats what matters. Good luck and enjoy it.

I have to wonder if you bought this thing without ever holding one.

Good luck with the CZ. You just traded away a great pistol. I am sure whoever you traded it to will be very happy.

What a strange little post...did the op ever shoot the Pro? Was the pro bought new?

If we all relied on internet threads to decide if our firearms were junk we'd never buy another.

The rattle you hear with a Glock is the striker in it's channel. It's a good thing.

So just to wrap this up.

1. Owner decides something is wrong with his S&W without ever having shot it
2. Even though he is hell bent on trading it he wants affirmation from the internet he is making the right choice
3. Everyone tells him there is likely nothing wrong and to shoot it
4. Without ever shooting it he trades it away anyway despite it being illogical

Thanks for wasting our time in this thread OP. Enjoy your CZ.
