The UPS guy brought my new to me CZ 82 to my house last week. It was $200 shipped and came with the accessories (I have already lost the lanyard). It has some holster wear, but MAN does this thing shoot:D. The bore is shiny and bright. The trigger is one of the best I have ever fired with a double action. I spent the morning sizing and trimming 9 x 19 brass down to 9 X 18 mak. Does anyone know where the best place to pick up Makarov bullets is?

If you're not against shooting plated bullets (I'm pretty sure plated bullets aren't an issue with polygonal rifling, but double check that to be sure - I don't currently reload for my 9mm Maks), Berry bullets are very economical to shoot. I shoot them in my 9mm Luger guns and have absolutely no issues. I'm personally about to take my first step into casting my own, but naturally you can't shoot those in a polygonal rifled barrel (though some of the CZ-82's being sold have replacement convential-rifled barrels, so double check).

As to the gun itself, IMHO its a great bargain. I have had one for a few years now and for the price they can't be beat. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Congrats! These are probably the best value on the market right now. Very good shooters and very solidly built. I love that you can carry it with the hammer down in traditional DA/SA mode or you can also do cocked & locked.

I just wish 9mm Mak ammo was still inexpensive like it used to be.

Not to sound dumb but how was it you had this pistol delivered UPS to your home and not go through a licensed gun dealer? Or are you a licensed dealer?

he probably has a c&r license ;)

It's still the cheapest centerfire pistol round.

Only if you shoot steel cased ammo. If you don't want to do that (which given that the OP is a reloader I'd say its a safe bet he won't - I don't personally reload 9x18mak but given some bad experiences with it I don't shoot steel cased ammo either), then 9mm Luger is cheaper for brass-cased ammo.

All of my eastern bloc guns gobble up steel cased garbage like a pit bull eats a porkchop. I don't think any of them have even seen a round of brass.

Glad to see you like it I picked one up a few months ago and never looked back one of my better purchases for sure the holster wear could be a slight turn off to some though.

I never shoot brass cased ammo out of mine. Steel works just fine. These little guns are a steal. The trigger is incredible for a sub $200 gun.

The paint on finish sucks but for the price who really cares.

Does anybody know if the 9x18 in service is steel cased? I know some eastern bloc guns were literally designed for steel ammo (ak-74 anyone? has anyone ever seen a brass cases 5.45x39 round?).

And yes, the cz-82 trigger is excellent at any price.

Since you are limited to plated of jacketed bullets in the CZ is it really economical to reload for the 9X18? You would think bulk ammo for the 9x18 would cost you about what it costs to reload it. I know I reload 9mm and even with cheap lead bullets I'm really not saving much money.

I will be shooting hardcast lead in it. People cast for these and shoot lead. They even sell lead cast bullets for 9mm Mak. I have loaded for Poly barreled guns before and even for my CZ 75. You can't shoot soft lead in poly barrels, but I have never had a problem with hardcast lead. According to my calculations, it will cost $99 per 1000 rounds fired shooting Unique. I have pounds of the stuff AND reloading data for the Mak.

Missouri Bullets is a good source for lead, I buy all my bullets from them. Use them as your own discretion with the polygonal rifling. All of the other 9x18s made use conventional rifling so the fact they make lead bullets in that size doesn't necessarily mean its a good idea.

jon, some of the surplus dealers are selling cz-82's that have new, us made, conventionally rifled barrels. that might be a better choice for a reloader :D

+1 for the Berry's plated Makarov bullets! I shoot them in my CZ82 and my Makarov. Also, trimming 9x19 to 9x18 is a great way to get cheap brass. I use HP-38/W231 in mine.

I didn't know that! I wonder why though. Its not like the stock barrel doesn't work just fine.

I'll second (or third) the use of trimmed 9x19 brass and cast bullets. As long as I do my part with oal the CZ and my P63 gobble them up. The bullets are not cast hard but they have as yet to show any tendency to lead the CZ barrel. I don't push them very fast, just a couple grains of bullseye.

Brownells Alumihyde did a good job as a coverup for the scratched finish. Just need some new grips and she would be a beauty queen. FWIW you can get tritium sights from CZ USA.

I just got one of these too :)

Very happy with mine, going to take 'er out with a couple boxes of Brown Bear tomorrow afternoon.

Having a C&R is so much fun, but dangerous for my bank account. I'm eyeing a P-64 now.

Color me jealous.

So save your pennies and get one :D That's the great thing about the 9x18 pistols -- for the price of one decent 1911, you can have one of each readily available 9x18 pistol.

:scrutiny:

let's not get carried away here..

for the price of a decent 1911 + $200 you can have both instead of 7 of the same gun..
