My wife and I went to the NRA meeting and after we left we stopped by the Cabelas in Wheeling,WV on the way to her folks place in Elkins. It was the first time we had ever been to a Cabelas and it was fun walking around looking at everything while I was looking at the used rifle rack I came across this beauty. She was only $299 I had been wanting a 30-30 for awhile and just couldn't pass it up.

Good purchase. Hard to beat a lever .30-30 for all around usefulness. I am not, myself, fond of see-through scope mounts. I think they place the telescope too high, but that's IMHO, YMMV, VWP and PDQ.

Enjoy your rifle--it's one of the true classics.

Nice look to be in really good shape have fun but 30-30 like to multiply in the safe ;) so watch out ok.

I concur completely. Of course, I'm one of those throw-backs who wants no part of a scope on a traditional lever-action carbine and much prefer a good receiver sight on them.

To the op, you got a great buy on a fine rifle. Congrats are in order.

Very fair pricing - Congrats!

Your Marlin looks a lot like the Glenfield line of carbines from 1970's - 80's. Personally, I prefer your blue metal nose cap on fore end instead of common barrel band. Looks more finished to my eyeballs.

If you want an even more custom look, you can have a local smith cut the magazine tube to 2/3 (two thirds) length and have the barrel cut slightly to eliminate the barrel band and tension marks.

I'm a HUGE fan of 30-30 carbines - handling, accuracy, and cartridge performance on big game. Please share some photos of your hunting kills taken with this carbine.

That is a beautiful rifle. Wood is in very fine shape and the blueing looks clean. Excellent buy for $299! It's got the checkering and safety, so it's not a very old rifle, but old enough to not have the "muddy" Mar-Shield finish! Your finish looks clean and mellow.

Add me to the list of those who dislike see-through mounts. Some guys can use them and cheek the rifle properly while looking through the scope. Not me. I need low-mounts or the cheek weld is way off and very uncomfortable.

30-30

I grew up in north western PA and I'm pretty sure it's required to own one if you live there. It is the best brush/ short range deer rifle you can find. They are fast, accurate and very quick with a follow up shot if needed. I own two and every one in my family owns one as do most people I know. It's a great gun! Enjoy it! my has see thru mounts and a 3-9 scope, best of both worlds.

P.s. I paid $79.99 at Jamesway back in 1975-6 for mine, Marlin 336c. :)
