Tell me what you know about my next planned purchase. You always help me out so I have to ask. Tell me what you know about Spingfield XD9.
Any good or bad I should know. I have a chance at trading my SIG Misquito (its leaving one way or another) and has been nothing but trouble for a NIB XD9 and I do not know very much about them other then it comes in a kit with holster and some other goodies.

I have one.. It rocks.

I own two XD9's, a service and a tactical.

One has been absolutely trouble free for 3000 rounds, the other had an extractor go bad at about 2500 rounds. Springfield replaced the extractor under warranty.

The only weak point would probably be the poor durability of the standard finish. Both of mine show heavy holster wear after one year of shooting IDPA matches. Go with the stainless slide if this is a problem for you. The new XD45acp's have a melonite finish similar to the Glock finish which should put an end to this problem. But this finish will not be applied to the rest of the line until later, as I understand it.

Overall I've been satisfied with mine and would by another.

My son (springerman 05) has one and it's a pretty good shooter. Only draw back is the trigger reset after the shot. It has alot of slack and more give than a Glock trigger. Other than that, it shoots accurate, functions fine and seems to be reliable. I'd say go for it.

Lenny, I think there's something that can be done to fix that. Something to do with a spring...I'd better not attempt to go into any detail less some bad information arises as a result.

Search around for reset adjustment and I bet you can find something.

Hmm.. i didnt think the trigger reset was a big deal at all. I tried some rapid fire strings at the range and didnt havent any problem. The issue I have is the finish. I've got 3 nice scratches on mine from dissaembly alone.

My buddy has an XD9, and I can't stand it! It has the ported barrel too, which only makes me hate it more (It is NOISY!). From the firdt time at the range he was hitting low and to the right at 15 yards. Well I went out with him after hearing the story and thought it was his trigger pull...nope I hit the same as did my other friend and brother (my bro is a Range Master at his police dept, and and outstanding shot...he shot a perfect 300 at the academy and has only gotten better!) So the sights are off which is annoying. The trigger is terrible IMO because it feels like a toy gun's trigger (really long and it feels like it will break). I have shot Sig, Springfield, H&K, Walther, Glock, Colt, and S&W. Of all those, I would buy an H&K no questions followed by Sig. The rest I don't care much for. FWIW

I wouldn't have one, only because I hate the 9mm round. Get an XD-40. If I can scrounge the money after paying off my bills, I might do just that.

I have the XD40, and I love it. Get it now! Go to pistolgear.com and get the #22 spring! Shoot it often to get used to the trigger. Get it now!

Very good pistol for the money.

I have had my XD-40 for two years now and not one failure at all. Accurate and reliable and comfortable to shoot. I have not expereinced the rusting slide that some speak of. You'd think that living in hellishly hot and humid Houston, I'd see the rust, but two years of hard use and not a speck of rust.

If it appeals to you, go for it..I love mine.

xd-40 aprrox. 2500 rds and not a problem. I love it. would never think of letting it go. It is accurate, especially to my standards being more of a rifleman that a pistol shooter, i have been impressed since day 1 but after you get it nice and broke in you will fall in love with it even more. With handloads my xd makes groups that are very impressive and if they were shot by a better shooter they would even be more impressive.many 3 and 5 shot groups in the same hole, i will try to take some pics next time, last time it was raining and the target tore when i tried to take it down.either way you go you can't go wrong with any of the xd models. my xd service model has a lazerlyte qd laser and is my home defense weapon.

It will more than likely be the most boring pistol you have ever had. It will shoot each and every time and do it well. The 9mm XDs seem to go forever. The finish wears off a little on the edges.

As far as people complaining the sites are off, it can happen. Back in the day we used to adjust those things instead of relying on the manufacturer doing it for us...

I agree with the 22# spring. I put a 22 pounder in my .45 GAP XD and I like it.

My only question is why the 9mm? Why not the new .45 ACP? Just about the same price and comes with more accessories.

I've had an XD-9 for a couple of months now. Haven't had a chance to shoot it a lot, but I've got about 450 rounds or so through it. The next jam I have will be the first one. It just goes bang and makes holes in the paper about where I expect them to show up.

I have a XD9 OD green that's a great shooter. Such a nice shooter, my wife has taken it for herself! :D Just means I have an excuse to get another  I also have XD45ACP and like it almost as much my 1911's. The XD's seem to be fine pistols, very reliable and accurate for a combat pistol. I'm not sure you can do better for the money. Good luck.

I have three XDs, all .40 caliber, the sub compact, service and tactical. Next will be the 45 ACP. I like the subcompact best of all. You really can't go wrong with any of them. The only problem I have had with any of mine was due to a magazine problem (bent it after dropping it on a concrete floor in an IPSC match). Buy it and enjoy!:D

have shot the subcompact. i think its a good gun, points naturally and shoots well. i was disappointed in the trigger reset after each shot and the trigger slack. seemed unnatural to me. decided id stick to wheelguns for now.

Since you have both the service and the tactical 9mm, do you notice any difference between the two?

Functionally, no. They are both dead reliable.

That said, I shoot the tactical better since that is the gun I normally use. I bought the service model for my son to shoot IDPA with and he likes it so much that he won't let me shoot it very often.:scrutiny: It does feel better balanced to me..the tactical is noticeably barrel heavy, but since I shoot it more than the service, I shoot it better.

I guess it's all in what you are used to.
