This spring my son and I got to take a trip of a lifetime. It was worth every penny. After many years of do it yourself hunting it was fun to go on a hunt with all the bells and whistles. If you ever get the chance to hunt New Zealand Shane Quinn at Alpine hunting will not let you down.

Well color me impressed! Awesome animal!

Out of curiosity, if you know it, what was the weight of the stag?

I don't know the weight. The one down side of the whole thing though is you cannot bring any meat back. We did get to eat some at the lodge and it was very good.

Wow talk about mass and crowns...What a beast! It is fun to do a "luxury" guided hunt every once in a while isn't it....

I hunted red stag a few years back right here in the States at Double D Ranch in Ohio. The hunt was great fun; the lodge and meals were fine.

We found this venison to be quite good indeed.

Thanks for sharing the photo and story.

Loose Noose ; The rest of the meat is sold to restaurants. I think the operation makes good money on it as there are numerous animals killed every season.

Black Powder Rob; Yes I get the whole mount. Taxidermist has it ready this week. I am VERY excited.

H&H hunter; yes it was fun to do the luxury hunt. We were only there for a few days so I knew we would have to go with a guide. When I got the stag I didn't get a drop of blood on me. The guide gutted it and then we heard a helicopter coming. The stag was at the lodge before I was and they had it almost skinned when we arrived. We are from Ky. and when the lodge gathered for happy hour that evening they brought out a tray with a whole bunch of shot glasses encircling a new bottle of Maker's Mark. The whole group had a toast to celebrate. It was great! My bucket list just got shorter.

T. R.; Nice Stag. It's fun to get to do something special every once in awhile isn't it?

Really nice red stag

Real nice ! Must be really good feed down that way in that area. Hard to believe they can grow something like that in just a few months. Had to think
spring here is fall there isn't it. Enjoy the mount. OYE

Yep. I got the full shoulder mount. From the ground to on the wall is about $4000 for the mount. I really had no idea. It is making negotiations with my wife to some day go moose hunting a bit dicey:D

WOW! Congratulations, that's a genuine trophy stag. In NZ they seem to grow quite a bit bigger antlers than in Europe; we shot about three dozen red deer during last weekend and none of them were even close, the biggest one being a 12-pointer half that size...
