I have had and been carriing my 642 for about 7 months now. I use some 158 SWC handloaded ammo for practice mostly. Last week I shot up some of my carry loads, and shot them into a couple of phonebooks dry for comparison.

The two loads I carry are Federal 110gr Personal defense, and Corbon 110 gr +p.

I fired a few of each in double taps at 10 yards. What I found surprised me a bit. The federals which are not +P penetrated 1.25 phone books. The corbons which are +P penetrated the same amount!!! The recoil and noise from both types of ammo are about the same. ( I dont own a chrono but it would be interesting to chrono them).

Here is what alarmed me about the Corbons which I thought were the best stuff going:

When I fired some double taps I fired two corbons out of a cylinder full, and went to do a tac reload, when I took the remaining three Corbons out of the cylinder and inspected them, they had pulled out of the case by the entire width of the crimp groove on the bullet:what: .

I fired federals and this did not happen to the remaining federals in the cylinder the crimp on them held tight.

I repeated with fresh corbons and the same thing happened fired three and the two remaining in the gun, bullets were pulled past the crimp groove.

I understand why it happens, inertial force and all, but this does not happen with my reloads which are tightly crimped, and it does not happen with the federals.

I expected better from Corbon. :barf:
