Finally got my safe to the house and started placing everything in it. Once i had my ammo on the shelves and my long guns in i realized i have no room for any of my handguns.

To fix that problem i am thinking of the wire rack that mounts to the inside of the door. Only issue i see with this option is the rack might hit the shelves and possible the seperating wall. If any one has used the wire pistol rack any comments would be appreciated.

Plans for the safe include bolting it to the floor, adding some kind of moisture control, and putting lighting. We are working on finishing off the basement this spring/summer and i havnt decided on the exact location of the safe yet. I aslo plan on putting in a work/reloading bench, and a storage closet for my hunting accessories.

Just thought i would share my set up and that after owning the safe for two years i finally have a place to put it. :)

I have a buddy that uses pistol "holsters" with velcro that stick to the door...it is very compact and he is happy with it. I just keep my ammo in another container; no way I have room in a safe for it.

I have a few of those wires. their cool and low profile, but i have to be careful wheni take out a long gun not to have a handgun slide off with it.

I wish they had a rentention device built into them or something.

There is an option that covers the inside of your door and has pockets in it. May stick out less than a wire rack. If I can find a link I will post it.

What brand/model is your safe? I like the set up.

I would put the long guns and handguns in first and then worry about the ammo... all in priorities I guess...

nice safe...btw

Agreed. Ammo has no real importance inside of a safe in my opinion. Besides, id fill a couple of those with ammo alone, LOL... get some ammo cases and store it that way, then use the shelves for handguns

I ran into the same problem but I didn't want to spend the money to buy a door mat system that holds holsters for the handguns. I preferred to use the money for more guns or ammo.
;)

I went to Menards and bought some u-shaped peg hooks for .99 cents a pack. I drilled holes into the inner door trim, inserted the hooks and hung my handguns on the hooks. They hang upside down by the trigger gaurds but that doesn't hurt them.

Be sure to check your spacing by placing the pistol on the hook and holding the hook up to the panel to see how the gun lays. Check it loaded and unloaded because they will swing differently with the mags/bullets in them. You don't want one gun singing into the one next to it when placed on the hook.

If you are concerned about the hook scratching your gun (which hasn't happened to me) you can go out and buy some liquid rubber that's used to insulate plier handles and dip the u-shaped portion of the hooks into it and that will provide protection for them.

I went to Lowe's and bought a bunch of Coffee cup holders and some of the rubber shelf liner. I used self tapping screws to attach them to the inside of my safe door. The liner was placed under the racks before they were attached.

I can hang about 20 handguns on the door. Cost about $25 and took 30 minutes. If you like I can send you a pic when I get home.

Nice.
When my new safe finally arrived from Amsec in November I must of took out shelves and dividers three times before I finally had it set up and organized like I finally settled on.
That's half the fun.
What kind of safe is that?

Last it wont be long before some paranoid makes ominous noises that showing the contents of your safe online will bring pestilence and famine upon the land in which you reside or some such.

Put the ammo in....

ammo cans:what:

If you are worried about curious hands, zip tie the ammo cans.

just sayin'

Thanks for all the help everyone. I will look into all the ideas you all have given me.

I was just playing around to see what kind of room i had in the safe and what all i could fit in it. I have plenty of ammo cans so the ammo will go into them.

The safe isnt a very expensive safe. It is the Stack On Elite 24 gun fire rated safe.
