My Senator sent me a letter

Today, I received a letter from one of my U.S. Senators, the Honorable John Warner, Republican (so he says), Virginia. I had contacted him regarding the legislation that would have eliminated most of the lawsuites aimed at gun manufacturers (S.659 and S.1805). He responded that he opposed this legislation because it was "...an overly broad measure" and "..would have given gun manufacturers and dealers expansive new protections under the law...Such broad protections undoubtedly would have had the unintended consequences of locking the courthouse doors for some Americans with legitimate claims. The most notable example is that of the Washington, DC, area sniper victims and their families"

He droned on to say that he offered ammendments to these bills "...in a good faith effort to improve the bill". His first attempt was add tort reforms to place caps on malpractice lawsuits, but this was defeated by the use of "procedural hurdles in the Senate". His second attempt was offered with Senator Diane Feinstein (D-Ca) to extend the Assualt Weapons Ban for an additional 10 years. This , amazingly enough, passed!

He continues on to extoll the virtues of the weapons ban and stated that "President Bush has indicated that he supports a straight 10 year extension of this current law." He states that he opposed this legislation 10 years ago, but has grown since then and now sees that this law has reduced crime in the U.S. But, he finishes by saying "Please be assured that I understand your views on this legislation. As a gun owner and hunter, and as a United States Senator priveleged to represent the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States Senate, I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment."

He is a true politician, capable of speaking out of both sides of his mouth at one time! With Republicans like him, who needs Democrats?:cuss:

I'm getting off my soap box now, just had to rant and vent a little. We are stuck with this clown, no one seems capable of successfully running against him and why should they?:banghead:

Boy, his letter is going to cost you!

Now you have to go out and get a parakeet and cage to hold the letter, and subscribe to a left wing paper for when the letter gets too used.
