My Spikes 22 conversion kit arrived today - I have a question.

Many have told me theirs functions best "wet".

I guess they mean soaked with oil, right?

If not, what are they talking about?

If you check AR15.com, Spike's says that pretty much a daub of oil on each rail is the thing to do, but to NOT run it wet--or else you'll run the risk of .22 soot congealing in your workings. It's already a pretty slick system with that electroless nickel plating.

I have to admit, when I dropped the unit into my roomie's AR, it had some problems in the beginning, but his AR was soaking wet and we were testing a new ammo (which turned out to be crap). It eventually ran flawlessly in his rifle. In mine, not so much, but I have the RRA 2-stage trigger in mine, and the notch causes all sorts of its own problems.

That being said--read that paper that says to give it a few rounds to work itself into functioning properly. They're right--the first few rounds out of the thing frustrated me, but it eventually started working 100% (out of other people's rifles without the RRA 2-stage trigger, though....ah well, another thing to fix).

HTH.
