My Benelli Nova project is finally done. It now wears a BSA red dot on a Weaver rail in front of the LPA rear sight, an extended magazine tube, and a Blackhawk buttstock pouch. Modest modifications, for sure, but I am pleased with the end result. I had a side saddle on this Nova for a while, but I removed it. The screws that replaced the takedown pins had a tendency to tie up the trigger mechanism when they were torqued tight.

Still, with the Blackhawk cuff I carry 12 extra rounds...seven in the pouch, and five in the shell loops on the pouch. The magazine is filled with seven reduced recoil 00 Buck shells, and the butt pouch holds another seven. The loops on the pouch hold five slug shells. I figure that this setup is more than adequate for social encounters in the middle of the night.

Marko's - nice set up.

I have followed this project of yours with interest, as I do others.

For your intended task I like what you have come up with. I have noticed more folks removing side saddles - it ties the gun up if torq'd . Now some will argue about shooting weak side with the Cuff or pouch...For intended task as homeowner, I don't see a problem. IF stuff gets that serious, cutting one's cheek and face is the least of one's worries.

Clarify how that pouch attaches...can it be pulled off like a Koplin? I'm wondering how well it would adapt to a belt? Having not seen or handled one I'm curious.

Where I'm going is - grabbing the shotgun and having a "fanny pack with shelll loops" if you will.

Thanks!

Clarify how that pouch attaches...can it be pulled off like a Koplin?

Three velcro strips around the bottom of the stock, one across the recoil pad. Rock solid, unlike the stretchy sleeves made by Uncle Mike's.

The Blackhawk pouch is also padded and textured, so it makes touching off high brass and magnum loads a little more pleasant.

Thanks for clarification on the BH pouch.

So "that is what I saw" - a fellow had one on his "tractor gun" From my angle [looking up and into combine] I couldn't tell what exactly he had. I noticed another farm hand had one on his belt, as he walked a ditch . Too much noise and distance to ask...your pic reminded of the set up and applications these two folks were using. :)

Going to remember this idea - thanks!

Sweet looking i almost picked one up Friday at the gun show now regret not picking it up maybe next gunshow.

AAAAHHHHHRRRGGG!I had one of those and a 590 mossy and had to get rid of them due too some bad times, yours is exactly how id pictured mine(im kickin myself).I just bought my project rem 870 though and ill probably get another nova NOW THAT I SAW YOURS!nice gun man!

Nice setup,Marko. How about posting some times and scores after doing some fast COFs? Thanks...

Weaver rail question

Marko,

Did your Nova already have the holes for mounting that Weaver rail? Also, do you need to remove the dot sight to use the ghost ring. Thanks for your post as I'm seriously craving a Nova tactical model.

Regards,

Luis Leon

Marko,

Nice Nova.

I, I mean my fiance has a Nova ghost-ringed shotgun and it is a smooth shotgun.

How is your sight picture when trying to cowitness with the peep sights?

Jim

Well...the mount does not allow co-witnessing with the iron sights, at least not with this particular red dot sight. I'd have to remove the sight to use the ghost ring sights. It is possible to score good hits on targets by just centering them in the tube of the red dot, even when the dot is turned off.

The receiver was not drilled and tapped; my gunsmith had to do that. He said it was easy enough...you can drill through the polymer right into the steel skeleton underneath.

I haven't had a chance to shoot a timed COF yet since I got done with it....life gets in the way.

Marko,

Have you thought about using a quick-release mount for the BSA? If push comes to shove, you can always use the front sight as a huge, tall bead.

Your setup is groovy as I am a fan of the Nova.

Jim

That is pretty cool. I'm thinking Reflex + Nova would be quite nice. Also, I haven't noticed any trigger binding with the Sidesaddle. How tight did you tighten it? I just have it firm but not very tight.
