Top is a Colt SP1 on an A2 Core-15 lower. Everything on it is from a SP1 except the Spec-Ops spare mag pouch of course.

Bottom left is a Colt AR-15A3 that I formed 1 and put a 11.5 inch Colt Barrel on. ARMS SIR rail, N-Cell Eotech, Pentagob LED light, Grip Pod VFG, Lone Star pistol grip, LMT SOPMOD Stock, ARMS 40L BUIS, Magpul ASAP Sling point w/ Troy Industries single point, and a Chopped Redi-Mag with Magpul BAD Lever.

Bottom right is a rebuild of the Colt AR-15A3. Bolt Group and Barrel came from the other rifle.

Didn't you already post pictures of your rifles in another thread you made a couple days ago?

We have a AR-15 picture thread.

I may be wrong but the Colt SP1 does not look correct. The handguards should be triangular and not round shouldn't they?

The handguards look to be maybe Lone Star Ordnance handguards or similar, and they're not original Colt parts. That rifle should have triangular handguards as I don't know of any original Colt SP1 rifles that had round handguards from the factory.

Post a picture of the receiver side plate data. The below is an original late 70s Colt SP1 with receiver sideplate data.

The barrel should be marked C MP CHROME BORE, below the rear sight windage knob there should be a C M and internally the hammer should have a C inside a circle.

Anyway, I don't believe the handguards are correct, I may be wrong on that. Also as mentioned, there is a pretty good AR picture thread where your rifles would fit in nicely.

You need four to make it an even number ! :D

Nice looking rifles. How do you like that BAD lever? I like the utility of it, but it looks like it could get hung up on things. Not like I'm going to be crawling through the jungle with it....

Looks more like an M-16 upper... an SP-1 upper would have the oversize front pin hole which would require a screw, not a push pin. I do like slick side uppers though - still have a couple of them in the parts box.

No matter the minor details, I like all of 'em. But Miami, you need to get to work if you only have three - after all, parts are becoming available again... :D

Got that upper from a fellow officer that's also in the USAF. He stated that he got it when they were sending guns to captain crunch and he got a few parts kits together and he Base CO approved. But I never believe the story unless it can be proven. I remember reading somewhere that Colt did make small pin uppers for the SP1 line

Nice AR-15 family you have there; I especially like the Shorty version. I have a Colt SP-1 from the late '70's that I swapped out the original triangular handguards with a round set mainly because I could never get a comfortable grip on them.

Strange, to me anyway, how several of you swapped out the handguards for the round over triangular. When I got the one pictured I went out of my way to find the triangular and make sure the rifle was correct, even though it is not a safe queen and gets shot. Just a me thing I guess and memories of a really lousy summer vacation.

I also have a Colt Sporter Target which does have the round handguards and can't say I notice much difference when shooting either. Great, now I'll be conscious about it.

I'm with Ron. I put triangular handguards on mine, and it's not even a Colt. I just like the look. That's the great thing about ARs, though. You make them YOUR rifle.

That's good to hear about the BAD lever. Thanks.
