Howdy folks. I was at the great and wonderful Wal-Mart doing some ammo shopping today. I came across some .22 Short and had to act. I bought 50 rounds of the Remington High Velocity 29 gr solid point. I was amazed at the size of these little buggers and considering it's not too common $3.00 (including tax) seemed like a good price. I've never fired it before, let alone seen it in person so when I go to the range next, I'll be truly happy. *side note* My J.C. Higgins Single Shot is good to go. It will take .22 Short, Long, and LR. Hair trigger and accurate as heck even though it's older than me. Good stuff.
Now on to 9mm: I called my local range, Iron Sights today and asked them how much for 100 of their 9mm reloads (cheaper). They said it was $10.50 for only 50 rounds. I know that they are ammo price gougers (but when they have a sale on their guns, we get a pretty good bargain) so I decide to go to Wally World. I found the classic 100 rnd Winchester White box, the 115gr FMJ el cheapo for $16.00 (including tax) and a box of 50 115gr FMJ Blazer Brass for $7.00 (including tax). I've heard that Blazer is junk but I figured what the hey, I'll see for myself.

On a side note, I've yet to give THR a range report for my JC Higgins model 103 and my Ruger P89 because every time I go to the range, my range buddy and I usually put about half of the ammo that we bring into 1 target (but we're not just blasting away, we just don't like to change targets). I'll try to give you a range report when we go to the range tonight or tomorrow night.

I just felt like telling THR about my happy trip to Wal-Mart...but I do have one question. How does the .22 Short differ from the .22 LR aside from the obvious size? I know next to nothing about this round so I ask that you educate me on this magical round.

9mm FMJ

Wally World is still beating everyone for ammo price, except for my regular gun show guy.

His stuff is factory remanufactured bagged ammo, with an excellent price. I've had to shoot up a few hundred rounds to gain confidence in it, but it's more reliable than the "Independence" blue box stuff (had hang fires there).

They just got in several boxes of .223 Rem @ $55/200 rds.

Best price in town.

Guess I'll have to pick up some more.

After you are amazed at the quietness of the .22 Short, hit up WallyWorld and ask if they have any .22 Short CB. From a rifle it sounds like shooting an air gun.

lol I won't even shoot that stuff anymore. I kept getting hit in the face with debris while shooting a 45...it even hit me in the eye once, while wearing safety glasses.

No sense in doing an ammo report if you are shooting the P89, I am pretty sure it will load anything you throw at it!
You are going to love that gun. It's a tad large for a CCW, but all around a great pistol. I have put close to 1000 rounds through mine and never had any kind of failure at all.
I even use expended casings in the middle of a full mag to flinch-test new shooters, it always loads them.

For everything but 9mm, Iron Sights reloads are competitively priced. I buy my 9mm and .22 from wally world, but buy my .38 there. Ammo is where a range makes a lion's share of it's money. They have the best firearm prices anywhere, and their service is second to none. I've always been willing to pay more for service. I really dislike standing around the counter for 20 minutes at Wal-Mart waiting for a person to help me, and then having to go through the "Winchester 9mm. No, the one to the left. No left. No below that. Over one more, THERE! Two boxes. Yes, two boxes of 100." but for $15/100, I put up with it.
