I know, I know. Everybody here has a suppressed P-22:rolleyes:

How many of you have a suppressed California model though??????

To those in CA, I am sorry if you feel:banghead: or :cuss:

:evil:I had to do it., and yes, it really is a CA model. Look at the slide.

CA P22.jpg

I know the can looks a little big; it is a Gemtech M4-02 5.56mm suppressor. The whole thing weighs as much as my 7 1/2" Bisley Blackhawk :)D no recoil at all :D).

What is the difference in the ca p-22?

Most .22 cans come apart for cleaning how about your 5.56 can?

No place for a wrench on the barrel nut, plus the nut is held on with loctite (an industrial thread sealant/glue) or some similar product.

The nut can be removed by heat and patience, at least Umarex (the makers of the Walther P22) didn't make their CA-compliant model very hard to undo, but I still don't see why anyone bothers making these CA-compliant models with cosmetic features removed ... eventually even the people of CA might get fed up and kick out their politicians, apparently they don't have enough infringements to be annoying yet.
But I digress, this isn't a political thread.

Good job undoing the asinine restrictions, vwfool! You should inquire with the CA "safe handgun list" to make sure that is still A-OK!

Hey looks like a pretty slick set up there!
btw I'm into classic Vdubs too! Got a '74 DD a '65 rail with a 1500 single port a 71 and a 69 for parts (pans and body and everything un-salvagable) and a '68 undergoing show-grade resto!
But nice Walter :D

I'm guessing you had to thread the barrel itself because cali models don't have a threaded barrel?

I really got the CA model because my dealer got a really good sale price on them, so it was about $45 dollars less than a regular one. bigfatdave was right, mine had some sort of epoxy holding it on and didn't have slots for the 10mm wrench. Nothing a little heat, a little patience, and a pair of vice grips or a 6" pipe wrench won't fix.

jmorris, no the m4-02 doesn't come apart for cleaning; I wish it did.

spartinpride, thats a cool collection. Right now I am down to a '74 standard beetle with a ragtop sunroof, IRS bus tranny, and a fuel injected 2180; a '66 body on a '72 pan; and a '66 pan/ soon to be buggy for a coworker. I am also thinking seriously about pulling the bed and body off of my old '85 Nissan 720 4x4 and putting a bug body on it. The wheelbase is only 3" longer than a beetle, and I think a 4x4 bug would be pretty cool.

cali models don't have a threaded barrel?
They do, the barrel nut is just a less serviceable model without slots and glued on.
vwfool, did you mill on wrench flats or just ditch the factory nut for a thread protector/supressor mount?

I ditched the nut that came with it; it wasn't too pretty after meeting the small 6" pipe wrench. I have a thread adapter that is made by Gemtech. It has female threads and a small shoulder on the barrel side, so it screws on and holds the barrel and barrel sleeve in place like the factory nut. Also, like the factory (non-CA) nut, the adapter has slots milled into it so it can use the factory wrench. The other end has male 1/2x28 threads, and comes with a knurled thread protector. I think is about $35 from Gemtech; however, I have seen a few other companies making them.

The only drawback is with one of these adapters on there, you have to pull it off to remove the slide for cleaning. Well, that is, if you believe in doing something like that. Probably shouldn't admit it, but I have 5,000+ rounds through this P22 while only cleaning what I can get to with the slide locked open.:uhoh: I know; I know. Shame on me. I do a lot better cleaning on my Buckmark with a Tactical Solutions barrel and my Anschutz pistol.
