If the states sue gun manufacturers for crimes committed with guns, shouldn't they be rewarded for the crimes stopped by someone who legally owns a gun? Maybe the manufacturers need to sue the states for part of the money saved by legally armed citizens. We were discussing HR800 the Defense of legal commerce in weapons manufacturing when she hit me with this gem. What do you think?

Damn right! If we're going to be insane and hold manufacturers responsible, we ought to reward them everytime a citizen, LEO, solider, sailor, or marine uses one of their weapons to protect themselves or the public.

Good point!

That is a great counter argument.

But for some reason, based on your thread title, I expected open this up and see a picture of a baseball bat!

Very good idea, but I bet a lot of the anti's will say, "Uh..no, that's different."
They always do. >_>

If a case like this was to go through and the gun manf won and the state had to pay up, wouldn't that eventually hit the good citizen that attributed to the suit in the first place?

Say Joe in OK using a Sig "scored one for the good guys". Sig sues OK, OK pays Sig. Now the state has to make up that money don't they? So, how do you make up money? Raise taxes somewhere. So, for Joe, who was the local hero, now is paying a little more in whatever taxes because he stopped the BG.

Am I thinking somewhat correctly? I don't know, I'm just pulling this out of the air trying to look at both sides of it. If gun manf can be rewarded without hurting the commonman using their products, by all means, that's cool. Maybe the manf can kickback some of their reward to Joe.

If the lawsuits even out, then the lawers are the ones that made the money. If Sig makes as much money from OK in a suit as Sig lost to OK. The lawers are the real winners here.

Of course I think that the first lawsuit that gets a chance will cause some "reform." Hopefully one that will protect manufactors, or even take a chunk out of all junk lawsuits

I expected open this up and see a picture of a baseball bat!
I was picturing a frying pan.

I was getting ready to duck a swinging cast-iron skillet... :D :D :D

It is an interesting concept, though. I would love to see a couple of folks that get hit by those frivilous lawsuits after a proper SD shooting countersue the BG's & BG's family for anything and everything.

Wow!

I am thoroughly impressed by your wife's idea!

Nothing like thinking outside of the box, eh?

(Michigander begins kicking himself for not coming up with this beauty!)

Thers an old saying to the effect of: one lawyer in a town will starve to death, two can make a pretty good living.

It seems a shame to me that we have a legal system and not a justice system. A legal system deals in the law, and that is a poor substitiute for justice.

Reading the title, I was banking on a frying pan. :D

I think I need a wife with as logical a mind as yours has. Fair is fair, right? If manufacturers are "responsible" for the way people use their products, it should darn well go both ways.

if gun makers are supposedly repsonsible for criminals actions...then arent car makers responsible for road rage incidents?

im dead serious, if the maker of the object is at fault and not the actual end user of the produced object, then louisville slugger should be sued, knife makers sued, any company that has every produced something that was used in the killing of someone should be held responsible.

picking and choosing who to go after isnt exactly seeking justice, its an agenda, a carefully planned well thought campaign/war thats conducted by lawyers to do the dirty work of people with an agenda against something, in this case guns.

i cannot believe still blame inanimate objects for crime!

I propose a suit against the manufacturers of lighters and matches. Even when you you the product exactly as it should be used, it causes a fire!

I'm suprised that no one has asked this yet, does she have a sister? :D

***ducking as wife might be standing behind me*** :uhoh:

Reading the title, I was banking on a frying pan.

hehehe, me too.

beyond that, Proactive said my feelings pretty well.

why don't we just close down production of EVERY object that ever hurt anyone?

BAN THE OCEAN!!! people drown all the time!!!

Another vote that logic will be an ineffective tool when dealing with these people.
